Question about poos in breastfed babies ... any ideas

Hi, I have a stupid question: my dd ,7 weeks, is producing slightly greenish slimy poos for the last 4 days even though she is entirely bf . Could it be something I'm eating, I thought I had quite a healthy diet ... lots of fruit and veg. She seems fine otherwise

my ds got this when I ate oranges. or they say greenish if not getting enough hind milk- but you may find your lo is drinking more foremilk these days from thirst rather than hunger as its so hot. nothing to worry bout I wouldn't think.

Breastfed babies often have green poo even if they are getting enough hind milk. Poo comes in a huge range of colours, and as long as there's nothing else causing you concern, it's nothing to worry about.

Just to confuse the issue, I was told with DD1 that greenish poo meant they were having a little too much to eat. But then they say you can't overfeed them...

As long as you have wet and pooey nappies and baby seems well, I wouldn't worry

My HV told me "sometimes it just is" when I asked about green poo

Claudi, you're not alone. My bf ds (5 weeks)' poos are also definitely on the green side atm!

I thought green poo was a sign of a lot of fore (watery) milk rather than the richer hind milk. That would make sense over the last few days if the baby has been snacking more and getting more of the fore milk (thhirst quenching), especially because it is hot. Some babies always have greenish poo, others never do.

As WWB says - breast fed poo can have a variety of colours - usually perfectly normal and nothing to worry about, as long as the baby seems fine in every other way.

My boys had green poo quite a bit. I think sometimes it's a sign the baby's fighting off a little infection (a cold or whatever). And sometimes it's caused by sunspots. Or something.

Seriously, as everyone says, if she's otherwise fine, just enjoy the "what colour will it be today?" game. She's already found a way to keep you entertained!
