I was just wondering if anyne knows radical changes to be made to benefit system. I have a 4 year old daughter and pregnant. I am no longer with their dad because abusive relationship on and off etc. i have been applying for jobs and no luck with my big bump due sept. so no choice to claim benefits until i Had my baby. I did not choose to be uin this situation and I am worried that government will class all single mums the same and refuse them any money what so ever. I am stressing over this. I have worked and paid taxes and prepared to do so after I recovered from the birth. anyone know what changes be happeneing xxxxxxxxxx

Don't fret, the situation isn't quite bad enough for you to be left penniless just yet!

I'm sure you'll still get benefits for a while yet.

They won't leave anyone penniless, don't worry.... If you look at the areas being targeted for the first £6bn cuts today there's acutally no mention of benefits per se. Spending Cuts Summary

ok thank you. lets see what new bills are passed today then by the queen or whatever this speech is for
I just keep hearing this big shake up to the benefit system and I agree that it is being abused by some people but some people end up in this situation by accident and it's a relief benefit system is there for a back up not a life choice xxx

As far as I can see (am also c laimant but I get acrerr's allowance so another not-a-lazy-sod claimant LOL) it's an aim to target teh soemthing for nothing culture: making long term claimants work for their benfits. I can see big issues with that (primarily employers using this to fill gaps they otherwise would have recruited for, and secondly as a former employee of a charity that could not have accepted volunteers without major screening, and probably won't participtae in Giovernmental sSchemes, I suspect such charities will suffer huge recruitment issues as a result) however I think it's nto us theya re after but the shirkers. That doesn't mean they won't come after us- but there doesn't seem to be anything about right now.

Lou,

The Queens Speech today sets out the legislative plan for the coming term, all the bills still have to be passed before they become law.

Regarding single parent benefits, I don't think you have anything to worry about, especially if it's your intention to return to work in the coming years.
