CBEEBIES Waybuloo. Has it a spiritual message?

Whenever I am watching Waybuloo with my 2 year old I keep thinking there are spiritual images appearing and I am not sure where they are from. Is there anyone who can tell me what religious messages are coming through this programme? For example, a wooden henge? Crystals, meditation or yoga positions? Not sure I am over keen on all this for the very young and not-yet-discerning to see.

hmm

jcscot Fri 23-Oct-09 00:16:36

I don't see it a religious - but I do see it as a pile of soft-focus, tree-hugging, fuzzy-jumpered rubbish.

Possibly the most annoying programme on children's TV and, given the sheer amount of rubbish on CBeebies, that's saying something.

SolidGhoulBrass Fri 23-Oct-09 00:23:52

I hate it too, load of twee simpering bollocks. If it was peddling a bit of yoga/meditation/tree huggery hippy stuff it might be less sickmaking.

LadyEvenstarsCauldren Fri 23-Oct-09 00:23:57

jscot, nope ITNG is the most annoying programme ever!!!!

Aaaaaaaaaghhhh aaaaaaaaghhhh aaaaggggghhhhh! Spiritual messages? Satanic messages more like! I hate it so much!

Needless to say, dd adores it and could name all the (horrible flathead baby-talking) characters after watching it about twice.

SolidGhoulBrass Fri 23-Oct-09 09:30:18

I hoped DS would hate it but he insists on doing the farking yoga along with those poxy dribbling pink goblins. I am persuading him to rename them Wee Wee, Poo Poo and Nutjob though. ANd whenever he asks why they are doing something, or talking funny, I say 'Because they are stupid and not real.'

At least Chuggington is endearing...

Somebody else posted this a while ago they had found a link on a christian site who were going crazy about it.
There is also some stuff on youtube about it.

I am not that bothered TBH DD watches it if it is on but she has never asked for crystals or yoga lessons after watching it so ho-hum grin.

SolidGhoulBrass Fri 23-Oct-09 09:35:01

Oh and by the way OP, the imagery you are referring to comes from the general school of woo-bollocks-fuck-all ie a bit of yoga, a few crystals are the sort of things stupid people think are vaguely 'spiritual' by which they mean nice, kind, thoughtful, In Touch With Higher Powers and similar nonsense. Entirely harmless.

Tatty Bumpkin is something really new and different, this is very spiritual and calming for both parent and child.

giveloveachance Tue 03-Nov-09 10:34:45

my lo loves waybuloo - and is very good at doing the 'yoga ' actions.

omara Tue 05-Oct-10 17:19:18

it is satanic and teaches children witchcraft and transfers DEMONIC spirits into them. the fact that you saw the spirit is a warning SWITCH IT OFF. If you dont believe me wait till your children start having strange illnesses and behaviour. one that is common is disturbed sleep/nightmares. it may not manifest now but later in life you will see the signs. yoga is originally a form of worship, it can be dressed up and given fancy names and definitions but a potato is a potato even if you cut it and deep fry it or mash it. don't dilly dally with the occult.

Habbibu Tue 05-Oct-10 17:22:01

is disturbed sleep/nightmares strange behaviour, then? I'd thought it was pretty much universal...

But while we're at it, what's the meaning of 3rd and flaming bird? I'm fully prepared to accept any sinister interpretation of that.

NordicPrincess Thu 07-Oct-10 12:16:58

yoga is a form of worship of what?

MaMoTTaT Fri 08-Oct-10 04:32:25

well - according to the director it has no spiritual meaning, and he's a devout Christian.

He's got 2 young kids - one of them loves it - the other hates it grin

Omara please tell me you are joking and I'm too dumb to realise!

I can't see any references to witchraft or demonology (not unless you count the horrendus plugging of the Boden catalogue) just the same old easten philosophy that westerners always pick and choose.

Yoga is a form of exercise that then allows the person to meditate properly. It has been found help people relax and be calm.

ZephirineDrouhin Fri 08-Oct-10 23:09:00

I quite like Waybuloo. I think your 2 year old is probably quite safe, op.

Third and Bird on the other hand makes me want to go on a psychopathic spree in the pet shop and strangle all the canaries.

ZephirineDrouhin Fri 08-Oct-10 23:11:13

Yeah, you're right about the Boden - had forgotten that.

I know a Christian in real life who has issues with it. Barking.

omara - rofl!

You people that think this program has an underlying message clearly have nothing better to do with your time and should maybe concentrate more on the development of your children instead of concocting this bullshit about it been about witchcraft and yoga been a form of worship, yoga,
n.
1. also Yoga A Hindu discipline aimed at training the consciousness for a state of perfect spiritual insight and tranquillity.
2. A system of exercises practiced as part of this discipline to promote control of the body and mind.

I for one would wecome my child to learn a discipline that promotes tranquility!

But lets get back to reality, the more likely and reasonable explanation for the way waybaloo is written and filmed is because crystals relect the light that get a young childs attention, the sounds the crystals make are simple sounds and music to help develop a childs ears develop his skills in been able to accociate sounds with things, the waybaloos themselves speak in a way that is easy to learn (simple words) and replicate when a baby is still learning to form sounds before they speak. For you to say that a television program will give a child etc and teach them witchcraft is the most rediculous thing i have ever heard and you should all get a grip and let your children develop in a normal way.

I seem to remember similar things being said about Teletubbies when that came out or am I imagining it?
It's really bloody irritating imho, mainly because I end up with a houseful of children trying to do the yogo positions...

HazeltheMcWitch Sat 15-Dec-12 14:31:23

Marktheshark you must love Waybuloo a lot, that you'd resurrect a 2 years old thread in order to defend it.

marjproops Mon 11-Mar-13 17:27:24

I wrote to cbbies asking this and was told it had no spiritual implications whatsoever, which I thought was a weak answer when people arent stupid.

If they want to teach kids certain things well and good but,The thing is, I wrote back (and didnt get an answer) why dont cbeebies then do a programme about Christianity (bible stories)
'' '' '' '' '' Muslim
'' '' '' '' '' '' Krishna ...yadda yadda yadda...if you're going to do one do them all.

Im sure more people would have complained if it was promoting prayer and signs of the cross and things as the Christian faith seems to be verbally assassinated in England these days.

btw- i didnt see anything out of the ordinary with teletubbies...just an annoying thing!!!
