My lovely cat who was 12 and had been ill for about 4 weeks had to be put to sleep yesterday. It was the hardest thing I have ever done and I cant stop crying.Sad
I feel so guilty and sick, I know in my heart of hearts I did the right thing she was so poorly and went so quickly, but I miss her so much, DC are upset too.
Is this normal to feel this upset?

so sorry to read about your catSad of course it is ok to feel so sad; pets are part of the family and you do need to grieve for them. have a (((hug))) and remember your cat as it was before it became ill. you can also be comforted by knowing you did right by allowing the vet to end its suffering at the right time.

Its a horrible thing to do but its the right decision when a pet is ill. Its ok to be sad, she shared 12 years of you life, of course you'll miss her. Big hugs xx

Sad I am so sorry. It is a heartbreaking decision, even when it's the right one.

I still dream about my little tuxedo cat (also 12) who was PTS. I just see him at the cat door or running upstairs and then he fades away. They are part of our families Brew

Someone on hhere recommended a pet bereavement site. Just because you have lost an animal doesn't mean you won't feel grief. There is a section on helping children cope with the loss of a pet. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the site.

Absolutely okay to feel so sad...I cried buckets when I had to have my gorgeous 15 yr old Persian PT'S 5 years ago...I've still got her collar and a really gorgeous photo.

It DOES get easier but pets are like part of the family (at least they are in our house) and grieving is normal and natural.

Hugs to you x

Its strange people keep telling me 'she was just a cat' but she was so much more.
I'm glad to hear it will get easier and sorry for your losses too.
My DH is going to sort out her litter tray etc today(cant bring myself to do it), she became ill very quickly so all been quite a shock.Sad

I think people who say 'just a cat' can never have known the joy a pet can bring. How sad for them not to know.

Hello half I'm so sorry about the loss of your kitty.

this animal charity were lovely when we lost my big ginger tom, they offer bereavement counselling by email.

It does get easier. I can now look back at our lives together and smile when I think of him, but it took time.

Big hugs to you xxx
