DS1 (aged 11) wants one/some for Christmas. I'd be grateful for any views on suitability, amount of care needed, where to get all the kit at a decent price, how to source geckos, any thoughts at all really! And why isn't there a 'lizard lounge' topic HQ? TIA.

I looked into this for my DD. Most Geckos are around £50 and the kit is about £250 by the time you have bought eveything they need. It is really really important that you get the correct kit as most health problems with geckos are due to incorrect environment or food.
My DD was put off once she discovered that you have to feed them live insects and once they have eaten their full you must take any insects out otherwise the insects will eat the gecko. Put me off too and I'm a vet.

Insects will eat the gecko! That sounds terrible! Thanks for this. Maybe back to drawing board!

My DS is something of a reptile expert, he keeps lizards and studied them at college if you want further advice I could check with him.
