Poncy or poncey, please?

flouncy not flouncey

Poncey, without any shadow of a doubt. You will note there is a soft 'c' in ponce, which turns hard if the 'e' is removed...

but don't the n and the slightly-vowel-like y manage between them to keep the c soft?

I would say poncy, but I'm definitely another smiley girl. I can see the logic of the soft 'c', but poncey looks like it ought to be a small village in France.

I'm ok with bouncy, lacy and flouncy but it's definitely smiley and as for poncy/poncey I just don't know

I think poncey looks slightly better.

Sorry, probably too late to be useful. But Oxford dictionary says 'poncey (also poncy)'. So I guess they're basically interchangeable but 'poncey' is slightly safer.

It has occurred to me: Tracey / Tracy -either is valid. So the answer must be that both 'cy' and 'cey' are correct. Useful motto for life: "When in doubt, use the Trace check"!
