Should it be

I shall be carrying a copy of The Times and wearing a red carnation in my buttonhole wink.

Or

I shall be carrying a copy of The Times and rearing a red carnation in my buttonhole. wink

??

And yes, I do realise the dedicated pedant would be entirely smiley-free!

Afterwards. You will have made your statement and are emphasising what you are trying to get across, therefore it should be at the end. grin

Instead of ;)

A smiley is just one large punctuation mark, imo.

D'oh and double d'oh!

wink fgs!

I agree with Conflu, the smiley can be the punctuation. Annoyingly though my mobile doesn't automatically use a capital after a smiley when I am texting. It should!
