Angeldog that made me laugh, you having to explain to your 3 year old about what an iron is DS had a similar experience, aged 3, when preschool staff were trying to assess him on his first day (I was watching from a distance). He picked up a toy iron and they asked him what it was, so he shrugged and said "I don't know". They looked at each other significantly and wrote things on their clipboards.

Had the same iron for 25 years. Does that give you a clue as to how often it is used?

Well, i wouldn't go to work in un-ironed clothes so I don't expect the kids to go out in un-ironed things either. That said, my OH does all the ironing However, i don't really care what other people do.

The clothes feel far nicer when they are ironed.

Exceptions are fleeces and underwear.

I used to spend all of my Sunday ironing everyone's clothes till I realised that with messy toddlers, the clothes would spend longer on the ironing board than they did on the child. And there's always baskets of clothes hanging around, waiting to be ironed. Neither of my children care about ironed clothes, I don't care about ironed clothes. So I stopped doing it.

My DCs uniform gets ironed once a year when I'm putting the name tags in or I'm fixing the hems.

My mum and MIL, who are iron a tea towel types, are horrified, but I dont care.

My sister irons everything, even all her daughters' knickers and vests. Surely she is mad to do this? She has four girls and they are always dressed beautifully, but I think they would look just as gorgeous if their clothes were a bit creased.

I iron some of DS's things that need but only on the day he is wearing it i have a small ironing board from ikea that i sick on the table to iron his tops. I also iron 2 of DP's but only of it's for a night out or party and one top of mine because the bottom rolls up for some reason.

DS wears a vest jeans/joggy a long sleeved top and jumper and coat or snow suits no jumper, he's in a buggy so blanket (thickness depends on the day anything froma muslin sq to knitted one) and cosytoe. I'm a cold person so i tend to wrap him up but i have a friend who is always warm and dresses her DD according to what she would be comfortable in i often think her DD must be freezing and she makes jokes about DS being warm enough.

Wow, just came back to this thread after a long day and I'm amazed at the number of posts. Thank you everyone, I really feel much better to know that I'm not out on a limb with this!
All respect to those who do iron, but I just cannot imagine how I'd find enough hours in the day.

Apart from knickers. I really can't understand why anyone would iron knickers.
I do work with someone who irons towels though...

In winter, they can be in jeans, cardi, t-shirt, boots, warm wool dress etc
Everything gets ironed except for underwear and PJ's. I don't mind ironing as I do it in front of the TV on the one night a week I watch TV.
I also think all clothes look infinitely better ironed.

However I also send all towels, bedlinen and a lot of DH's clothes off to the launderette once a week and his shirts are ironed there so I am no domestic goddess

I iron, after my parents looked horrified at how creased CD looked after I moved into a house with an awful washing machine that made everything very creased.

I don't iron. The only reason I even own an iron is because DH brought it to the marriage

Fair enough kids clothes not being ironed if you don't want to, but how do adults survive with no ironing? Do you not work or do you tumble dry or do you buy special fabrics or what?.........or do you just stand tall and proud and crumpled?

I sometimes think I shouldn't iron my stuff and it would detract attention from my un-ironed face

I used to be a determined ironer. I tried several times to wean myself off. After going through some serious dt's I succeeded. I found it very very hard, and the OCD part of me kept wanting to go back and iron.

But now...the liberation and freedom! I iron practically nothing, and the world hasn't ended. Dd looks no different either....

Even when I worked full time outside of the home, I didn't iron anything. When I shop for clothes, I think about which ones will wash well and will not need ironing in order to look presentable.

Only DH work stuff gets ironed here, plus anything 'fancy'.
Two year old DD wears jeans/ trousers, vest, long sleeved top, socks, boots, possibly jumper and thick coat with hood for going out. Or snowsuit if wet/ really arctic

DH buys noniron shirts and I hang them up and shake them out when they come off the hanger. They look fine when they're on. When I worked in an office I wore t-shirts under suits.

i only iron DS's smart shirts when he needs them - so not v often. Occasionally I have to iron something but generally avoid it by hanging stuff up. I work and wear (I think) smart clothes but have never got into the habit of ironing and am definitely not going to bother now.
