My newborn seems to struggle a lot with burping, I was wondering if anyone had an particular techniques to share with me that could help me burp her easier? Thanks

I used to hold my DD2 with one hand, face down, with the heel of my hand on her tummy. Sounds odd, but she liked it and it worked.

Now she is older, I sit her up and gently press on the small of her back, kind of massaging it.

are you BF? if not get the Dr.Brown's bottles if you haven't already. my DS was a nightmare for bringing up wind until we bought them. didn't even have to wind him after a feed after we bought them coz he just did a huge burp afterwards!!they are fab.expensive but worth it . Also we used to hold DS under his arms so he'd stretch out his legs and tummy, that worked well to.

forgot to say-make the most of it.I would love if my DS needed me to burp him now. He drinks bottle by himself then shuffles off into a corner to burp and poo-no mother needed

My DD2 is 9 weeks old and can be a nightmare to burp too.

Infacol is good at helping with wind.

DH has a better knack than I do, but maybe its because he has bigger hands? He uses the heel of his hand and gently pushes up her back, which kinda straightens up her back allowing her to bring the wind up easier.

Also try moving her around and sitting her on a flat surface. Dont know why but it does work.

I used to put DS up on my shouder and rock forwards and backwards. This used to work.

I used to do it walking upstairs, holding them against me, face over shoulder. Shoulder protected by muslin!

The gentle rocking motion as I went up the stairs seemed to do it for mine.

Oh, newborns and their burps!

my first had an awful time with burps I couldn't get out, HV gave some tips in time for my next baby who happily burped for England, Ireland, Scotland, most of the continent...

Best way which worked if after a few mins of rubbing the back brought up nothing was to move them from horizontal to sitting position several times, then back to back rubbing, repeat until they spew on you

I used to run my hand gently up and down my DS's left hand side whilst his head was on my shoulder.

Or let him lie on my chest, face down and rub his back in circles.

It used to take a good 20-30 mins to get a burp out!

Ahh, burping a baby.

I used to sit mine on my lap suporting their chin with one hand whilst roundly rubbing their back with another.

We all heaved a sigh of relief when one finally came out

I was told by my midwife that the anatomy of the stomach is that the food pipe does not join from directly above (like 12noon on a clock) but is actually slightly to your left side which means there is a space at the top of the stomach where air can get stuck when baby is upright. She showed me a technique and I will have a go at writing it down:

  1. Sit baby on your knee facing sideways.
  2. Put one of your hands under each of their armpits to take their weight.
  3. Bounce baby very gently about ten times to get the little air bubbles to join together
  4. Tilt baby to his/her left side and then upright again once or twice to release any trapped air
  5. Put one hand on baby's chest and the other on their lower back and sit them up really straight so the air can come out.
  6. Listen for the burp!!

Worked for all three of mine - fingers crossed!

MIRACLE CURE FOR MY BABY'S TRAPPED WIND!!
I am a mother of a 2 month old baby girl.
I have been really upset by her constant crying/lack of sleep
for us both.
She kept making pushing noises like she was in pain and tensing her body up and
it really made me feel so helpless!!
I had tried all the different ways of holding her & bought Infacol and found none of them to be very helpful.
I spent a while googling it one night and someone mentioned that proping the baby up on a
few pillows so they were in a sideways sitting position helped them,
I tried it with not much hope but OH MY GOD!! I am so glad I did as she has
not been in pain since! It's a bit of a pain at night as I can't lie down and feed her I have to be as upright as
possible but it's well worth it as she is such a happy baby now!! now I can enjoy her!
