sorry I'm confused - do you mean Valentine Low? I thought the article was a good one - how is it derogatory?

[unlike dear Mr Tweedie's of the Daily Telegraph cough cough]

Or do you mean the comments?

WhatDidISayRoy Fri 20-Nov-09 11:00:02

i thought it was quite a good write up actually. but perhaps IABU not you grin

The only part I object to is the definition of Mumsnetters at the end:

"Degree-holding, middle class cappuccino drinkers who hate private schools and bad grammar. Users are cliquey and caustic as they discuss topics from pushchair tips to politics in a language filled with acronyms (like IYSWIM and DH — if you see what I mean and dear husband)."

Quite sweeping generalisations based on a small census, no?

WhatDidISayRoy Fri 20-Nov-09 11:05:15

yes i agree skipto especially if they saw the threads about those on benefits and how they can kick off.

MN is a huge mix of people from all walks of life.

Tis true that we can be caustic though grin

I could be wrong - but I suspect that part might have been added by a sub. Often the bits around the edge of an article (the side bars and the emboldened quotes) are done by someone else.

The person I objected to was "Dave" describing us all as bimbos. But there's no point in engaging with people like that - he's just a troll with an issue.

What a twatty article (BUT GO RIVEN!!! ) and a few bloody twatty comments too.

I don't see how a mother asking about general provisions for her SN daughter is anything other than an extremely sensible question and a very valid point!

'His answer to the nappy question was: “I will look into this. With Ivan I don’t remember being limited like this. The move to personal budgets and direct payments should help, but let me get back to you.” '

Well no that's because your expenses probably covered it so why would you care?!

'Politicians Ed Balls, David Cameron and Gordon Brown have appeared in webchats only to be harangued about their biscuit choices.' I find this somewhat insulting.
Some really well written political questions were asked throughout the thread and this quote just suggests we couldn't think of anything intellectual enough than food preferences.

I think the article tries to belittle perfectly valid issues (such as nappies) to suggest some people were just set on harrassing Cameron. If its an issue important to a voter one would imagine it would be of prime importance to the man trying to bank that vote.

Well done for persevering Riven, I hope you finally get your answer!

I began reading the interview in the hope Cameron would gloss my doubts, now I've been left with more.

Bob from the Wirral, who claims ''when females have babies there brains go a bit haywire(medical fact) this would probably explain it!''
needs a good slap round the chops with a dictionary.

"language filled with acronyms (like IYSWIM and DH — if you see what I mean and dear husband)"

Sh*t. does DH not mean dick head then?

OrmIrian Fri 20-Nov-09 12:06:41

" who hate private schools and bad grammar. Users are cliquey and caustic as they discuss topics from pushchair tips to politics in a language filled with acronyms (like IYSWIM and DH — if you see what I mean and dear husband). "

Yep. About right.

And the comments? Does that mean I am a bimbo?

Ooh how thrilling. Never in my wildest dreams <flutter eyelashes>

mollyroger Fri 20-Nov-09 12:07:24

grin @soupy

paisleyleaf Fri 20-Nov-09 12:09:35

LOL at DH - dick head

Sorry - yes, article was fine- it was the twattish comments that annoyed me.

whoisasking Fri 20-Nov-09 12:18:29

"MrsNeilTweedie wrote: “I’m embarrassed how rude and hostile people on here are being.”"

This is fantastic! MrsNeilTweedie is a v funny namechange in response to Mr Neil Tweedies nasty little article in the Telegraph. I knew eventually the internet would eat itself.

theyoungvisiter Fri 20-Nov-09 12:20:57

I think Bob is a mumsnetter. The bad grammar combined with the rampant sexism just pushes slightly too many buttons grin

Thus speaks someone who knows MN. If only he could have slipped in something about fruitshoots...

mollyroger Fri 20-Nov-09 12:22:53

ha, never thought of that TYV...though I do love (medical fact}

Women know about kittens (medical fact)
