How the fuck should I know?

Anyone else have no idea what their kids are on about?

nevergoogle Tue 21-Jun-11 21:41:28

really? you all understand this gibberish?

SarkySpanner Tue 21-Jun-11 21:45:16

I know boba fett.

Never heard of the other one...

You need star wars top trumps tournament. That'll set you straight. All you ever wanted to know and then some.

Oh I feel your pain!
I had years of my DS going on about Star Wars (loves Star Wars Lego), I used to struggle not to glaze over. He used to talk about various vehicles and star ships and be surprised that I didn't know the names!

nevergoogle Tue 21-Jun-11 21:59:28

hmm, the lego star wars encyclopedia is a fun bedtime read. hmm

AurraSing Tue 21-Jun-11 22:00:08

DS was so cross he couldn't talk to me because I failed to tell the difference between Commander Cody and Commander Rex. They're clone tropper - they are the same.

I know of Kitt fisto, but I don't think I could point him out in a lego line up.

nevergoogle Tue 21-Jun-11 22:01:45

oh yes, i imagine i could get in a bit of bother with the different commanders too. they are all the same!

AurraSing Tue 21-Jun-11 22:02:58

I've hidden the lego star wars encyclopedia. I had to reads it every night for four months. I know more than I should about star wars.

done Starwars, done gormitti, done them all, but nothing, and I mean nothing comes close to POKEMON. just don't even allow them in the house. you have been warned!

OracleInaCoracle Tue 21-Jun-11 22:07:17

oh yes.... <gibbers in the corner> and there are different versions of the same fucking character!

SarkySpanner Tue 21-Jun-11 22:08:40

Ds: "mummy who do you want to be in our star wars game"

Me: "nobody I'm not playing"

Ds: "but you have to"

Me: "ok I'll be princess leia"

Ds: "no I think you'd better be chewy"

Little fecker smile

Talking about star wars is fine can um and argh at appropriate moments, its star wars guess who that gets me how the hell am I suppose to know if I'm on the dark side or if I'm a wooki!

LemonEmmaP Tue 21-Jun-11 22:10:55

DS1 is going through a big Star Wars obsession just now, which in turn means that DS2 is equally obsessed so as to emulate his big brother. DS2 was telling me very seriously that the 'Lions have got the flag'. I couldn't recall too many big cats in Star Wars, so was a bit confused. It turns out he meant the Alliance. Bless.

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism Tue 21-Jun-11 22:11:48

Ah yes, but have you been asked to rank the characters yet?

I have had to bullshit rank my top 10 clones. (with reasons)

My most awful bad characters.

My best characters

Rank the films in order of greatness.

Why is my DH never around when these conversations occur?!?

nevergoogle Tue 21-Jun-11 22:12:55

i think i am usually Asoka.

i've reminded them that even darth vadar is probably good to his mother.

Saltire Tue 21-Jun-11 22:14:42

Ds2 is 11 and we go through this periodically too. oh and Dr Who character is another one. If Ds2 thinks we aren't listening and have the glazed look then he'll stop, and start to tell us again and again and again until he's sure we have taken it all in hmm

nevergoogle Tue 21-Jun-11 22:15:08

oh crap, how old are the children when they ask you to rank the characters?

is there any way of avoiding this?

osd Tue 21-Jun-11 22:18:20

There is a star wars cookbook too, if you like its on amazon we have the series, love my godsons and nephews, but my two ds are not going there. Enough! Sick of cooking star wars meals when they come and stay and that is not often enough to complain smile

SarkySpanner Tue 21-Jun-11 22:18:23

I think the key is to show complete ignorance from day 1. That way they don't bother asking and wait for their dad to show up

You have to get used to the 'mummy is really stupid' look though.

AurraSing Tue 21-Jun-11 22:22:20

I love the Star Wars coookbook. grin "Pricess Leia Danish Dos" and "Dark Side Salsa", anyone?

posey Tue 21-Jun-11 22:23:29

Sarkyspanner I'm with you on that one.
Ds will ask me some random important Star Wars question and I usually answer "oh I don't know darling, you'll have to wait til daddy gets in".
Then off he goes to add to his encyclopaedic knowledge of the subject. Very sweet but sooooooo boring [ grin]

TimeWasting Tue 21-Jun-11 22:25:22

DS isn't into Star Wars yet, but I'm pretty well-prepared after 12 years of DH. grin
Star Wars Cookbook sounds good. <adds to DH Christmas list>

OracleInaCoracle Tue 21-Jun-11 22:26:23

oh, i may have to get that cookbook.

and this

posey Tue 21-Jun-11 22:30:12

Lissielou that is totally fab. Possibly filled with black jelly...
It's on the Christmas wish list

SarkySpanner Tue 21-Jun-11 22:32:57

Thing is though, much as I whinge about starwars etc I'd still take this over the girly shite any day.
