<whispers> it's the downright ear-bleedingly shit cover of the most magnificent 'This is the Day' by The The

Agreed, and it seems to be on the radio all the time at the moment.

Oh god yes, OP. His phrasing is *all wrong*; the poignancy and wistfulness is all lost.
<Nicky Wire is ageing well, however>

We went to see the Manics last November.
It was about the 5th time we have seen them and they were brill (as usual)
Nciky looked fab (as usual)
I've not heard the song yet (off to youtube to have a listen.
Which station is playing it a lot.
Mind you I am a planet rock girl and they only play the Manics very occasionly.

At the gig last year Iwoulddo James did a bit of a solo set. Just him on stage.
Very good it was!

He is amazing! DH and I went to see te at the Corn Exchange last year and it was their best gig yet. I bought their greatest hits album today even though I already have all the songs.
It's me clinging on to my mis-spent youth
I will love them until my dying day!
I absolutely love the Manics, but this song is, well, not great, to say the least. I've not heard the original, but it can't be any worse.
Still, it'll give me a chance for a bar/toilet break at the O2 gig in December.
Yes, I've just posted on two Manics threads in a row. Yes, I know this makes me seem like a bit of a saddo.

That cover version made me weep, there was no need for it. That song for me was my teenage years, I loved The The and it that song could never be covered properly. I wonder what they were thinking?
