James D Bradfield has always grated me up the wrong way, and yes, that cover makes me weep too

upahill Mon 31-Oct-11 14:42:45

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/images/B005ES40Z4/ref=dp_image_z_0?ie=UTF8&n=229816&s=music

I'm not sure what is up with it.

I@m sure the penny will drop when it is explained

upahill

<whispers> it's the downright ear-bleedingly shit cover of the most magnificent 'This is the Day' by The The

openerofjars Mon 31-Oct-11 14:55:27

Upahill: Hands off!

He is lovely, though...

Timeshare?

upahill Mon 31-Oct-11 14:57:14

AhHHHHH ! {slaps forehead}

I'm with you !!!!

upahill Mon 31-Oct-11 19:38:43

I have spent the afternoon laughing at my dimness!!!!!

JoinTheDots Mon 31-Oct-11 19:40:58

Agreed, and it seems to be on the radio all the time at the moment.

Oh god yes, OP. His phrasing is *all wrong*; the poignancy and wistfulness is all lost.

<Nicky Wire is ageing well, however>

upahill Mon 31-Oct-11 20:08:42

We went to see the Manics last November.
It was about the 5th time we have seen them and they were brill (as usual)
Nciky looked fab (as usual)
I've not heard the song yet (off to youtube to have a listen.
Which station is playing it a lot.
Mind you I am a planet rock girl and they only play the Manics very occasionly.

IwoulddoPachacuti Mon 31-Oct-11 20:11:58

I LOVE the Manic's ! Leave my James alone, he is mine!smile

upahill Mon 31-Oct-11 20:13:38

At the gig last year Iwoulddo James did a bit of a solo set. Just him on stage.

Very good it was!

He is amazing! DH and I went to see te at the Corn Exchange last year and it was their best gig yet. I bought their greatest hits album today even though I already have all the songs.

It's me clinging on to my mis-spent youth smile I will love them until my dying day!

I absolutely love the Manics, but this song is, well, not great, to say the least. I've not heard the original, but it can't be any worse.

Still, it'll give me a chance for a bar/toilet break at the O2 gig in December.

Yes, I've just posted on two Manics threads in a row. Yes, I know this makes me seem like a bit of a saddo.

redlac Tue 01-Nov-11 19:41:08

I like the cover version - it is played on 6music at least 4 times a day.

JoinTheDots Tue 01-Nov-11 20:17:13

Also played on xfm 104.9 Londonat least once per DJ show.

upahill Tue 01-Nov-11 21:43:23

I still hadn't heard it on the radio so just got it up on youtube and then listened to the the.

hmmm! If you can't say anything good don't say anything at all I think!!

katkitya Tue 27-Dec-11 08:43:23

That cover version made me weep, there was no need for it. That song for me was my teenage years, I loved The The and it that song could never be covered properly. I wonder what they were thinking?
