The Wild Ones by Suede
THE most perfect lovely beautiful sad sweet song ever. The opening strings of guitar are so precise you could hear a pin drop. Builds from a sad lament to a beautiful sring crescendo.
Number one in my personal chart for decades. Would piss over any dull pop ballad they cover over and over again on the Xfactor

Suede are fab, surely.
But not that obscure I wouldn't have thought?
Or maybe I'm just old...
May I nominate a couple:
Cattle and Cane by The Go-Betweens
Stolen Property by The Triffids
Doppelgänger by The Luddites
...all Peel show listens from the 80s. Sigh....

Tranquillizer by Geneva
They were an indie band in the late 90's, did 2 albums and were never particularly popular. Loved them though!

am reviving this thread so I can mention a couple
Things Fall Apart by Cristina. Anne Nightingale used to play it back in '83 or so all the time!
The The - Uncertain Smile. 'Tis brillig.
Empty Bottles - Ben Watt (the other half of EBTG). His 'North Marine Drive' album is up there in the stratospher IMO.
De-Luxe by Lush. Still one of my fave bands ever.
Anyone else?

Can I throw Alternative TV "Another Coke" into the mix or Pere Ubu "Non Alignment Pact"

Llanbobl - you'd think, but when a colleague at work asked for everyone's favourite songs for some kind of work do quiz, that very song was rejected by him when I volunteered it as 'no-one would have heard of it'.
So I think that qualifies it absolutely for this thread <see thread title>
