I kinda wish i hadn't chosen this book for swapping - it was a spur of the moment choice from a collection of books by the same author.

I felt the book was ok. It's probably not one that I would jump to read again any time soon. There was very little character development or really any personalities portrayed by the title characters. My favorite character was Joyce's senile father, as he was the only one that was given an interesting personality. The book read as a short story that just happened to be of novel length, if that makes any sense.

That being said, the book was still a page turner and as far as chic-lit goes it does go with the happy ending. I still kind of liked it, just didn't LOVE it.

I had never read any books by this author and to be honest wasn't in any rush to so in that sense it was a good choice for book club as it made me read something I would not have otherwise.

This is a light read, escapism I too enjoyed the father character which did make me laugh.

You need to take the central premise of the sstory with a huge pinch of salt. I felt the book was too long by about 100 pages, it reminded me of a soap opera where they spin the story out over several episodes.

I have always avoided books by this author thinking they looked a bit vapid. I agree that the whole thing went on far too long and I skipped bits towards the end. I liked the father though, he was a bit like a character Marian Keyes might have (her novels much better IMHO). The story was pretty implausible and the characters (except the dad) entirely cliched and/or one-dimensional.
