Meant to say I was discombobulated from the off - I had it in my head it was this book about Mormon polygamy, and I kept wondering when it would go into that!
I've just finished this, and I really enjoyed it towards the end, but found it quite confusing. I was reading it in small chunks when I was tired, and I think it would have been better to have read more, more frequently. I seem to have missed a key fact, either through reading it too speedily or through tiredness. Who was the author? Whose daughter was she - Charlie, the brother?
I also found it slighly disconcerting not knowing when it was set, and I got really confused about who was who. Overall the failings were mine - I loved the twist at the end, and I liked the main character and her dad.
Thanks for choosing it, Aristocat.
So glad you liked it, I would guess that the story was set in the 1920's or 1930's but this is only because of the house, clothing and descriptions.
It was a last minute choice for the club as I didn't like the book I had originally planned to send.
I loved the book store/twin story line too

I hope you don't mind starting this thread on your behalf, Aristo but I thought I would write whilst it was fresh in my mind.
I really enjoyed the book. I wasn't sure at the start and it took a little bit of getting into but then really got going. I found the whole twin thing fascinating (reminded me a bit of Her Fearful Symmetry although a completely different type of story) especially as I have twin neices so it made me think of them a little bit.
Loved the twist at the end and glad things were looking up for main character - I am a sucker for a happy ending
.
As an aside, I was kind of intrigued as to when story was set. It was obviously a good while ago (no PC's, mobile phones etc). Looked for a publishers date in the book but couldn't find one, must go and google it ....
