High thyroid antibodies / MC

After a mc at 12 weeks (although estimated a mmc at 7.3) and have started researching the effect of high thyroid antibodies.

My results where 426 iu/ml if that means anything to anyone! This is not a surprise as I knew they were raised (have been on thyroxine for 14 years - now on 125mcg a day with a TSH of 0.13 and free T4 of 19.5) but I am only now becoming aware of this being a potential cause of recurrent mc.

I am aware that some people here are being treated for this issue and I was wondering if anyone had any advice or knowledge that might help me?

My doctor is referring me for further tests at St Mary's but I am not sure if I will meet the criteria. My first two mcs were around 15 years ago with a different person.

Am just so worried about it happening again and looking round to see if there is anything I can do to address this. I have started to take 200mcg of Selenium daily as I have heard that might help.

Any advice or information appreciated!

Sorry to hear of your losses. I have under active thyroid, and I had a mmc a couple of years ago. When I went to antenatal endocrine clinic when I was PG again I asked consultant about any possible link and increased risk. I was told that as long as T4 was well controlled and were having regular checks, there shouldn't be an issue.

I had regular blood tests, she didn't say any more than that. are you aware of some other information? I would insist that you are put under a consultant endocrinologist.

Hi Flutey, thanks for response. Sorry about your mmc too. Did you go on to have a DC? Do hope so!

Yes if you just have an under active thyroid and it is well treated and your thyroid levels are normal then you should be ok and not have any relevant problems. The problems start when you have an autoimmune disease that has caused the thyroid problem - like Hashimoto's thyroiditis. The hasn't really affected me in any other way (I mean any other way different than usual hypo as I WAS very sick, slow and fat for some time before I was treated) apart from meaning I have high antibodies. So hasn't been a concern until I realised that this can cause mc.

I have asked for referrals to St Mary's and to Dr Shehata to see what comes up first and what i am eligible to get! Might not be eligible as my mcs haven't been recurrent. But yes, maybe I need a consultant endo too. If I get pg again I will push for that.
