Hi ladies,
I had tests done privately there and in total, with 3 consultations and blood tests and an HSG (but no ultrasounds, which I think are about £300 each if done by a doctor) it was about £1500.
It really helped to speed things along in terms of tests, helped me cope with the uncertainty and feel like I was doing everything I possibly could IYSWIM. Seeing the doctor privately also means you get dedicated time with a senior doctor, which is hard to get on the NHS (sadly). I have been extremely lucky and had my lovely DD2, will never know if the treatment I had (progesterone / heparin) made a difference (I am in my early 30s and had 4 mcs after DD1, they didn't find a reason for my mcs).
St Mary's aren't great about returning calls or emails, but they can send a price list. There are extra charges of about £15 or so every time they take bloods for phlebotomy (done in the Linden Wing of the hospital), this wasn't mentioned on the price list.
As Hopefulness says, they are happy for women to have some tests with them and some elsewhere. If you can, get the "karyotyping" tests done on the NHS (on you and partner), as these are by far the most expensive blood tests on the price list! It's also the test that takes the longest for the results though (12 weeks) as they have to do special analysis or something.
The more invasive tests, e.g. HSG (dye to look at uterine lining and tubes with a scan), are more expensive.
Hopefulness, St Mary's do a special blood clotting test called a thromboelastogram (TEG) that isn't done elsewhere, where they whizz the blood around or something (!). This is done in addition to tests for specific clotting issues (e.g. antiphospholid syndrome, FactorVLeiden), which are part of the tests done at other mc clinics.
Coconutfeet, not sure what they recommend re TTC, but suspect that they don't tell people what to do but leave it to couples to decide. For a couple of the tests, e.g. the HSG, you do have to be sure you aren't pregnant. I knew a couple of (younger) ladies from another forum who got pregnant in the midst of blood tests etc and the clinic helped to get results back quickly etc.
If the doctor suggests any medication, they should put full details in a letter to your GP. If your GP is nice, they can prescribe the medication and you shouldn't have to pay for it (otherwise, if you have to get a private prescription from the St Mary's doctor, you have to pay). It is worth getting a private prescription too, just in case your GP won't prescribe it, to avoid delay getting the medication when you get pregnant (extra stress no-one needs when dealing with a new pregnancy, as I know from experience!) You can then just not use it if the GP will help.
Sorry, have rambled on, bit of a brain dump! Really hope they can help you.
