Menopause

Sore boobs remind me of breastfeeding!

I'm 45 nearly 46 and for the past few months my breasts have been feeling really sore and tender around midway through my cycle-they feel the way they did when I was breastfeeding. Is this the start of perimenopause? Can't feel any lumps so haven't really felt the need to go to the docs.

I've had the same symptoms and been told it is caused by hormonal changes of perimenopause (I've also gone on to have hot flushes, disturbed sleep etc). As long as everything feels normal (no lumps or other changes) I would guess that this is a sign of perimenopause. Hope this helps.

Glad you asked this because for the last couple of months I've had exactly the same feeling and suspected that this might be the case, I've even had to buy a bigger bra!

Nightmare! I even considered the possibility I might be pregnant as it's that kind of soreness, but then we got the letter saying my Dh's vasectomy was successful!!

I was a bit worried at first as DH has had the snip too, that would have made an interesting conversation! I know what you mean though, it's the same kind of fullness. My periods have started to go haywire too, hardly anything then another one 2 weeks later! What's that all about?

Sore boobs here too. The other month I dug out an old maternity bra and had to hold them up and down stairs so they didn't move (and they're not even big!). Made me wince for a couple of days.

Have just had tests mammogram etc for sore boobs with lumps. I was told that the age between 40 and the menopause is really common for women to develop cysts in their breast tissue which can be felt as all sorts of lumps which can change daily?!?!? I have loads of cysts in my right breast and none in my left. They suggested taking a high dose of starflower oil or evening primrose oil which helps a third of women with breast pain. It really helped me - they are a lot less sore and lumpy now which is a blessed relief as they had been feeling like a bag or red hot spanners just before recent periods. Hope that helps someone else!
