My ex-husband and I separated in June last year. I am very keen to revert back to my maiden name and wondered if anyone can give me some advice. Can I just do this myself, ie: would my bank etc allow me just to revert back to my maiden name? I have looked up changing it by deed poll and have found websites offering to do it for £7.99, but I am not sure they are legal or binding. Wondered if anyone can give me their experiences? Thanks.

My solicitor said I can use my maiden name if I wished, so I do and have not heard anything to contradict her advice. Nothing is in my married name

I used an online deed poll service and the passport office, DVLA, bank etc have all asked to see it so I'm glad I did. A friend witnessed it for me. It cost about £40 for several copies.
I'm not divorced yet either but have been using my maiden name for almost two years now.

You can do it for free. There are plenty of online free deed poll websites that you can use for this. I used one, printed it and got it signed by two seperate witnesses and have since used it to change bank/drivers licence/passport.
