Hey all

Have seen your 'living in America' thread and am intrigued.

I'm American (DH is German) and we've lived in London for 5 years -

Scary thought is that we could be moving back to States next year (PA). I have no idea how to meet anyone or pick a school...it's made me a bit .

Wondering where in the US you all live and where you are originally from?

Hi, I'm in London but from New York City (and worked in the schools). Usually, each house/neighborhood is assigned a local school and children who live in the zone have the right to attend that school. So when you are looking at houses you have to know which school the house is zoned for and make sure you are OK with it. Unfortunately I don't know how to assess PA schools but most state departments of education have a good website with published test scores etc.

My name's a big of a giveaway

I'm British but moved to California last year. My kids go to a Montessori though, so not sure about school. Meetup.com is really good for finding people in your area who share your interests. Nice to meet you!

Oh a website for meetups - fab-u-lous! Thanks!

Am just petrified at the thought of moving (back) to the States. I loathed moving when I was a kid...but to be nearer to my parents... oh it's just killing me trying to decide what to do.

Being able to meet new people would help though

The schools there are another BIG question. We got into an "Excellent" one here so for Primary at least we are (were?) set. Can't imagine changing it all
