Currency exchange in Singapore

We arrived in Singapore 3 days ago and have found ourselves in a ridiculous cash flow situation.

We're all set up with a Singaporean bank account and have a money transfer company lined up to move cash from our uk bank account, but we've realised we didn't bring the card reader that allows us to do online bank transfers from our uk account. It's on a boat somewhere heading to us over the next few weeks (slaps forehead...)

Any advice on what to do for the best? Our latest idea is go to a money changers and buy Singapore dollars with our uk debit card and physically take the cash and deposit it into our Singapore bank account.

Is that a workable plan? Is there a better way out of this?

Can't you ring your U.K. Bank and so the transfer over the phone?

It's an internet only bank account, they're a bit difficult to get hold of over the phone. And also, I'm not sure I'm still officially allowed to keep the account if we're overseas, so if I'd like to avoid telling them the full story.

Do you have any friends/family who could transfer you a sum for a short period into your Singapore acc?
Could you order a new card reader and have someone send it by super speedy delivery (use a courier not mail)
