Sally Bercow naming teenage runaway - a question

The Guardian has a story Sally Bercow in new Twitter gaffe over court order.

So, she has broken the court order by naming the girl who (allegedly willingly) ran away to France with Jeremy Forrest. She could be fined £5,000.

My question is about whether these court orders are retroactive? In other words, you can still google stories from the press in the run-up to the apprehension of Jeremy Forrest, which name the girl. Should they have been edited to remove her name? If not, doesn't it make the court order a bit ineffective?

Well it's a bit bloody stupid to have court order to not name a girl who was named and had her photo plastered all over the papers a few months ago! Hmm What bloody numpty passed the court order?

I think they have to, because she's a minor and is protected under the Children and Young Persons Act 1933, but I wondered if it should be applied to all previous articles naming her also?

Yeah I read the article and realised they had to. But shouldn't it have then applied when they were looking for her also? I mean it is completely stupid to plaster her photo all over the papers when they ran off, and now the court case is coming up they can't name her! Hmm People know who she is.

Well I think the key there is that they were trying to find her, so needed her name and image to be publicised as widely as possible.

I wondered exactly the same as you OP and googled to see if all of the previous mentions of her name had been deleted and it's all still there.

In fact newspapers that reported the story still have the old pages on their websites.

It's all a bit strange.
