These kangaroo care stories come up every so often and bring a tear to my eye every time.

Here.

Thank goodness for the mother and her instincts. It could have ended so differently.

I just read this - amazing!!
The wonder of mother nature eh?

nancydrewrocked · 26/08/2010 16:00

Amazing - that photo of the three of them before they realise he has survived is heart breaking.

mydadsdaughter · 26/08/2010 16:06

wow what a great story, amazing!

stressheaderic · 26/08/2010 16:08

I read this, and must admit it brought a tear to my eye too.

I'm sure the baby must have been alive in some way, and it was a clinical error to pronounce him dead, (note that the doctor would not appear on the TV interview) but what a wonderful thing to think that his mother could have brought him back to life with her warmth and cuddles.

To go from utter despair and heartbreak, to joy and hope like that - unspeakably brilliant. What a true miracle Jamie is.

Lovely story. There is a book called 'Call the midwife' about a midwife who worked in the 1950s in London's east end. In that they describe a baby who was premature and born at home and the mother would not let the baby be taken from her to be treated at hospital she kept him close to her for days and fed him drops of her milk and the baby thrived and survived. Jenny Worth the midwife in the book believes if it wasn't for that mother's instinct the baby would not have survived.

porcamiseria · 26/08/2010 18:48

that made me cry

PerpetuallyAnnoyedByHeadlice · 26/08/2010 20:27

sorrento56 · 26/08/2010 20:29

I love that woman :-)

Morloth · 26/08/2010 21:22

God that first photo is just heart rending isn't it?

What a lucky bubba.

Morloth · 26/08/2010 21:58

Also someone needs to tell Terry Pratchett. After all the boy is an Ogg so it isn't that surprising that he is also a survivor. Grin

POFAKKEDDthechair · 27/08/2010 12:20

wonderful story. I do wonder how many babies might survive if given this chance.

HotSprocket · 27/08/2010 12:24

I love this story, the mum gave him life twice, he's a lucky lad.

Stretch · 27/08/2010 14:30

This is so beautiful. And the comment from the husband made me blub too.

Chunkamatic · 27/08/2010 14:33

I just read this out to my Mum and we are both sat here blubbing! What a wonderful, wonderful story.

travellingwilbury · 27/08/2010 14:44

This is an amazing story but I really feel for any woman who has been through similar and is now thinking "If only I did the kangaroo care thing maybe ....."

Brings out a lot of different emotions .

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 18:32

This is going to be on the ITV news tonight.

POFAKKEDDthechair · 27/08/2010 20:49

yes I thought that too travelling wilbury, would hate anyone to feel as if they had not given their baby the best chance, impossible to know. Maybe it is a one off miracle, maybe there is more to be discovered about the kangaroo theory. Maybe worth trying though.

travellingwilbury · 27/08/2010 21:08

I am glad it wasn't just me POFAKKED , I did feel like I was putting a big old downer on what should be a happy thread .

wukter · 27/08/2010 22:50

I agree Travellingwilbury.

But I suppose what-if's are a normal, if tormenting, part of grief.
