Motherly Love Breeds Confidence comes just a few short months after Do You Praise Your Children Too Much? Anyone else find these contradictory 'studies' from the University of Rhubarb totally teeth-gritting?

I don't understand where there's a contradiction - one seems to say that a baby benefits from having a mother who is emotionally responsive, the other seems to say that when children reach school age there is much greater benefit in praising effort than praising results.

Agree - no contradiction. and this is pretty old news too. be loving/responsive and praise effort not results.

And working mums are now OK... a short time ago we were the devil incarnate..... Yet more contradictions. Yet more reasons to leave the 'experts' to it, not buy the books and trust our own judgement.

I just ignore ignore ignore. I love my children and tell them so all the time, I praise them loads and anyone who tells me I'm damaging them is, for example, a twat.

I do have fairly strong views on the SAHM/WOHM thing myself but I really wish the meeja would just leave that subject alone as it's making people on all sides feel guilty.
