This is a really thought-provoking article on why the author refused to go to school at 11. Sadly, nobody in her life seemed to consider home education.

That's exactly what I thought! It wasn't even mentioned in the article. Seems like it would have been a simple solution, much more so than sending her to special "units". sad

I found it very moving. My middle child is a refuser - following two years of bullying at secondary school. He's very happy at home, and very engrossed in his studies. I suppose, like Jenn Ashworth's mum, I'd be relieved if he suddenly wanted to go back, like all of his friends. But I'd much rather he were happy and having a productive time at home, than being 'toughened up' by school.
