Highchairs and baby seats

Seat size & re-usable nappies?!

DD has just reached 6 months, can sit pretty well now with a little support and we've started weaning so I thought it was high time we got out the high chair I was kindly given by a friend of a friend

It's a Fisher Price one, and I'm a bit taken aback at how small the seat is, (i.e. the actual bit she sits in, not the back which is large and nicely supporting). Fair enough, DD is a chunky wee lass and she wears re-usable nappies to boot, which adds to her bulk. But she's only 6 months and yet there was vvverrrryy little room to spare when I sat her in the chair and I struggled to do up the harness as the between-the-legs bit didn't seem to stretch far enough. Where's the room for growth? She was in disposables this morning and seemed more comfy but I'm not switching just so she can sit in her chair!

Anyone else found this? Do some models have more of a seat area than others?

That sounds bizarre! Check you haven't done something weird in the way you've built it - e.g. is the back the wrong way round or something? If not I'd be looking at a new high chair myself. I had a DS in reusables and never found a problem with our high chair - Ikea Antilop which everyone on here loves and only costs about a tenner I think.

No, we got the thing fully assembled so it's not my skills in screwing things together that's at fault! :)

I've been offered a Stokke one but I'd hesitated as I thought it didn't look so comfy. But I now think I might just go for that instead. Just a shame it doesn't fold.

Anyway, I measured and the space DD has to sit in from behind the between-the-leg upright and the back of the seat is 11cm. The strap is only 9cm from the back.

I've had no problems getting cloth bummed DC in either the Antilop or the Stokke, or in fact, in any highchair. It sounds like the model you've got is just rather odd.

If you've been offered a Stokke, take it. They are excellent, both my DC are very happy in theirs. DS's cloth bum still fits in his chair which still has the baby set on, he's 15 months. In fact DD (almost 3) can still fit in it too although she's out of nappies now, so no problems with space. My niece still loves hers - she's almost 10.
