What constitutes "better off"?

For most jobs, the chances of advancement are greater if you are working full time, so I'd go for as many hours as possible, with aim of adding more and seeking more responsibility and promotion idc.

Unless your plan involves study, or setting up your own business alongside, in which case those activities may well be your main effort; in which case putting a few more hours into them and working externally a bit less in the very short term might secure your position (own business or better post) much quicker.

That would be great if i wasn't a single mum with no family to help me at all. I am not bothered about having a career as i achieved what i wanted before i had ds by working 70 hrs a week. All i care about now is working and providing for my son without being ripped off by Mr Cameron
