hi all my son was chosen out of his school yr for talent in p.e and is now on the g&t register just wondered if anyone has any onfo on what will be instore for him in the future x many thanks x

My dd is in reception and is on the g & t register for p.e too. I'm watching your thread with interest as the only extra opportunity my dd has had so far is to race against yr2 instead of her year for sports day. How old is your son?

Dont' expect much from the school, ime. Yr5 girl we know on g&T list hasn't had much from the school; but lots of opportunities outside of school, at least.

I think it carries alot more weight at senior school. Close friends son G&T for sport at senior school alot of extra support for his rugby. Now playing area rugby (one step below national) and will have his England trial shortly. Though senior school was a sports college.

At secondary level I would think DC would need to be a good all rounder and at 'county' standard in at least 1 sport.

Lizcat Can you tell me more about the trials. How did he get nominated - was it from district or from school. I have found the admin side to be a nightmare because no-one ever seems to know what is going on so it is very difficult to make sure that DS is 'in the right place at the right time'. How old is your DS, what is the youngest that they do England trials.
Has the done the trial yet. How did he get on?

I don't know much about it as it is s friend's son only that our local team is a was until last season in National Division 1 and he has been playing in the first team ( ie. in national division 1 since he was 16), he plays county and area rugby (in the season he goes to leinster once a monthly to train).
At school he has was asked to play in the first team at the age of 15 and his parents stepped in because they felt physically was not big enough or mature enough to play with 18 year olds and they did not him to ruin his future with an injury( he plays hooker). He was in the school first team last two years and they got to the semi finals of the england schools tournament on two occasions. His parents supported him delivering him to matches (and stepping in to keep him safe), but beyond that they stood back and let him drive his progress through the game. A little unsatisfying for you I know and I do know that as a Mum my friend has found it hard now he is playing adult rugby coping with the injuries.

Thanks Lizcat, I realised after I posted that it was not your DS but a friend's.
DS isn't allowed to play for club and school because he is not allowed to play twice in the same weekend so he has to chose between them. School doesn't allow them into the Firsts squad until year 11 (15 going on 16).
I know that if he is that good then he doesn't need to go chasing - the scouts will find him - but I fear he may be in the nearly-but-quite category which is why I stick my nose in
