Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

Alcohol free beer - whats the catch?

Agree that Bavaria is nice. If you like bitter, Sainsburys own brand low alcohol lager is a good substitue as it's quite hoppy. Cobra is sweet and becks tastes like becks to me which is rank. Most breweries do an alcohol free version it's just that they've only been available in the UK recently. I've heard Kaliber is vile.

Alcohol free wine is just awful so avoid at all costs.
Bavaria is good as is Cobra. Holsten is horrible and Kaliber will give you a worse hangover that drinking 4 pints of Drambuie shandy in my experience.

PMSL, Orm.

MIL gave me a bottle of Fre or some alcohol-free wine when I was pregnant with DD1.

It went well when mixed with sparkling water, but it was expensive and Pomegreat juice was just as good and half the cost.
I like tonic water if I'm not drinking. Tis much nicer than pretend beer.

And it's expensive! Better off having a wine gum.
Ormirian has it exactly!

I'm in germany - so the beer actually tastes like beer. Pretty yummy tbh.

It's ok if it's really cold but none of them tasted quite right. Always a bit too sweet ime. I agree that Cobra is the best.

I prefer cobra over becks too smile

Mmm yes, Cobra is my second favourite. And comes in bigger bottles grin.
Cobra alcohol free is the nicest IMO

Becks alcohol free tastes pretty good. And is just water, barley, hops, yeast according to the ingredients (it's possible that those two facts are connected...).

AFAIK there are no decent alcohol-free bitters, though.

I like the idea of not drinking alcohol, but wondering if it's as innocuous as it sounds? So what's the catch? vast amounts of sugar, links to cancer and packed full of chemicals?

TIA

If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
