Ouch. I would ring NHS dirct to see what they advise.

DarrellRivers · 07/11/2008 17:15

Where are you in your cycle and when did you last have sex?
is it copper or mirena?

suwoo · 07/11/2008 17:16

On period. Is copper, no worries about pg.

It fuckin hurts! NHS direct ringing back within the hour- going out with DD now to Xmas lights switch on.

of course, the mooncup,
Are your threads outside your vagina?
And if you gently feel inside, can you feel the coil?
Like a T about 1cm long

DarrellRivers · 07/11/2008 17:19

It may be in your canal which is why it is hurting
Normally coil removal is painful for a few minutes with cramps and then settles if it completely out of the cervical canal

suwoo · 07/11/2008 17:20

Yes the threads are quite far outside my vagina. My cervix is open but I haven't rummaged too far- should I just go for it and pull it out?

OP posts:
suwoo · 07/11/2008 17:20

Nope still really hurting- must be in canal- shall I do it?

OP posts:
DarrellRivers · 07/11/2008 17:21

If you can feel the coil in your vagina i would remove it, but if you can't feel it and it is still very painful I would get someone in A+E to take it out
It sounds as if it has been displaced from the top of your uterus to the bottom, so it won't be working correctly and will probably need removal and re-fitting

suwoo · 07/11/2008 17:22

God, what shall I do????

OP posts:
DarrellRivers · 07/11/2008 17:23

It is reasonable straight forward for most doctors to remove it, all you need is a clamp to hold onto the strings and a quick tug and it should come free, it is not as tricky to get them out as to get them in
(i took my own coil out )

LilRedWG · 07/11/2008 17:24

If you can't pull it out yourself, get to A&E and have it removed. The last thing you need is an infection (which you may get if it scratches/damages you in any way).

LilRedWG · 07/11/2008 17:24

Or your GP's surgery if they are still open. The nurse'll be able to do it.

DarrellRivers · 07/11/2008 17:24

Are you near A+E, is it too painful to drive?

sherby · 07/11/2008 17:25

I took my own coil out too, just tugged on the strings and it came out

Bit of a surprise for you though

DarrellRivers · 07/11/2008 17:25

Seriously, give the threads a good tug, and it should come out easily, that's all they will do in A+E

suwoo · 07/11/2008 17:28

Just gave it a gentle tug and it killed! I am brave too there is no way I can do it. Will have to go tomorrow, got to go to bloody city centre now!

OP posts:
DarrellRivers · 07/11/2008 17:31

Oh goodness, goodluck sw, take some brufen , that should help a bit
and if it is still painful and not settling think about A+E tonight because if it is in the canal rather than the bottom of the uterus it will keep spasming to try and pass it

emma1977 · 07/11/2008 17:31

Sirry, I'm going to shout...DO NOT PULL IT OUT YOURSELF!!!!!

Go to A&E pronto.

The reason for not pulling it out yourself is that a small proportion of women get a condition called cervical shock when something passes through or gets lodged in the cervical canal. It can cause a profound drop in heart rate and unconsciousness- that is why coils are generally fitted and removed with medical back-up.

emma1977 · 07/11/2008 17:32

Sirry, sorry, whatever.

suwoo · 07/11/2008 17:33

Right, going to A&E, can't bloody walk!

OP posts:
DarrellRivers · 07/11/2008 17:34

I think that is the right thing to do, it sounds like it is causing problems where it is lodged and much better for you to get sorted than to go to Christmas lights

ummadam · 07/11/2008 17:34

What Emma1977 said!

it will be very simple for them to sort in A+E but contrary to popular opinion coil removal is not a DIY option!

mehgalegs · 07/11/2008 17:37

Oh ouch SW - that sounds bloody painful. Hope you get sorted at a&e.

LilRedWG · 07/11/2008 17:40

Will keep my legs crossed for you. Hope you are okay. x
