Have discovered a very red and quite painful lump on the outer edge of my labia - can anyone tell me what it is?

Have done searches on the Internet ( you can imagine what sort of sites were coming up!!!) - nearest thing seems to be a Bartholin's Gland cyst ; BUT these seem to be next to the entrance to the vagina and mine isn't.

Please help - don't know what to do and I can't get to the Doc's until Monday.

This isn't a dodgy message - I am a regular poster on Mums net - but am embarrassed about the whole thing and have changed my Nickname. Am not sure why i feel embarrassed espec. after having two children!

how big is it? don't suppose it is an ingrowing pubic hair that's got a bit infected? i have had a couple of these before--really really sore, but went after a week or so. just a thought....

Its the size of a largish spot - but I think it might be getting bigger. Definitley away from pubic hair area.

can you sense if there is fluid or puss inside? (sorry to be so gross)or is it hard?

It felt hard initially - but that could have been due to the shiock at finding something there iykwim. I suppose it soed feel like there could be something more fluid inside. it is painful to touch.

god i am now expert, but i think it sounds like a spot. can you see it? more grossness, but what about a nice hot bath and a gentle squeeze (yes, know it will hurt like hell) to see if there is anything to come out, it may be puss making it so painful. i have had spots around that area before. bloody hell you have changed your name for this and i haven't

Was already tempted to go down the warm bath and trying to sort it out route - think I will now! It does feel like a spot - mind you...you aren't meant to squeeze spots are you?!!!

nah, but then again, you're not supposed to do a lot of things are you? just be very gentle, and if nothing comes out immediately leave it for the time being.

ok another one that's about to completely embarrass herself. I've had these spots too and yes they are painful (especially when squeezed) but after squeezing them they have cleared up within a few days and haven't had any more for a few years now. Just be sure to keep the area clean (i.e when you go wee give yourself a gentle wipe with a clean wet flannel).

oh and if it is a big spot, be prepared for a lot of pus!

Thanks everyone - can report back that I did give it a squeeze and some pus did come out - has now healed over. Wonder what it was? Not pleasant or comfrotable but now at least I shall know what to do in future!

I get these, hurt like hell don't they!
If you get another, stick a heat pack or warm face cloth on it - it brings it to a head - then gently squeeze. They generally absolutely erupt!
Then clean it with some witchhazel or tcp and forget it till the next comes!
I think if its not caused from an ingrowing hair, its probably due to being a bit run down

I had this and have just had treatment. The lump was painful and it was difficult to sit comfortabably at work - it was also agony when anything brushed against the lump. After a few visits to the doctors, two courses of antibiotics and some cream (the antibiotics helped but only temporarily), I had the 'lump' removed - it turned out to be a small cyst caused by an ingrowing hair. The op was only a couple of days ago, but feel much better already!

This is a pimple and will freak you out but don't worry. All you need to do is soak in a very warm bath and then try to pop it. It is kind of painful but you will feel much better after it is done. Have had this myself. They are more likely to appear after your period and needs to be kept dry. Will usually disappear after about a week or so! Hope this helped!
