Hello all
I spent most of last night in the bathroom, or lying on the floor holding my poor stomach. I'm now exhausted and have been able to keep down liquids and a cream cracker. Needless to say I feel like shit...
Any tips for a swift recovery?
Rest, fluids as and when you can manage them. Try ice lollies as they sit easier on the stomach. Thorough hand washing and airing the bathroom between episodes will reduce risk of passing it on.
Sadly you have to accept it will take a while for it to leave your system! Hope you feel better soon.
I thought I had norovirus on Christmas Eve, but it ended up passing through within 24 hours - like you, I was sick all night, tired and unhungry all day but after a good night's sleep I was much better.
Still feel weird after eating, though, a couple of days later and haven't dug into a lot of the Christmas food yet.
Hopefully you'll have this milder thing, like I (and most of my family) did.
Thanks
I hope it's the milder thing too. I've eaten a tiny bit of plain yoghurt and a cream cracker but think that was a bad idea - my stomach is making ominous noises...
Hope you're feeling better soon Sunny.
Can I ask how it started? I've been feeling nauseous all day and am worried its the start of something.
Hi Quick
I started feeling a bit 'odd' - then a few hours later the vomming started. I hope that's not the case for you?
I'm feeling somewhat better today, thankfully. My temperature seems normal and I haven't been sick or other since last night. My abdominal muscles ache though and I have zero appetite, and I'm knackered.
Take to your bed and don't try and do anything.
It should pass quickly - 24 to 36 hours, but you will feel crap the whole of the time.
Keep your fluid intake up and keep a bucket handy.
Dont eat anymore yoghurt, dairy feeds sickness viruses.
It took me about a week to get over it, I was exhausted and that stayed with me, I just laid on the sofa for about five days but I didnt get my apetite back properly for about a month.
Its grim.
I've had a cream cracker today - it feels like I've eaten a huge meal!
I'm on the sofa with MN, a book and a blanket. All bases covered
I had a nasty attack two weeks ago.It has completly ruined my Christmas.I still feel half dead and have no proper appetite.
Unless you're alone you need to concern yourself with making sure that you don't pass whatever it is that you have on to someone else!
Must bugs are spread by either droplet or skin contact. Either way make sure that you are careful about contact, cleaning surfaces and absolutely fastidious about hand-washing - properly - throughout the day, not just after using the toilet.
Avoid prepping food for others whilst you're still unwell and don't go out until symptom free for at least 24 hr to avoid spreading to others.
I had it last week, was horrible. I got dh to get some real orange juice ice lollies from M&S think they're made with Valencia OJ? They helped me feel miles better!
Started 3am Boxing Day was able to eat a little after 24 hrs but still have no appetite. Have cooked for friends coming round tonight but no idea whether it tastes ok as have not been able to stomach testing it. Friends have already had virus so will be fine.
Advice online says that not infectious until you start vomiting then spores can hang around for up to 5 days so keep hand washing. Disinfectants do not work just need to wash anything contaminated in a 60 wash or under running water for a while.
Like most mums I suspect that recovery slowed by the holiday effect. When everyone else is on holiday it's twice the work for mum.
My DH suggested I clear out the garage today! I just hope he gets it for New Year.
feeling a bit annoyed that we have to visiting tomorrow.....to family who have had the norovirus this week! Will take dettol surface spray, wipes, face mask. Any other tips?
If you have 2 loos/bathrooms try and keep one for the infected, and the others use the other one.
Lots of wiping of door handles etc with disinfectant-type stuff.
I would try not to visit the family who've had the norovirus. Absolutely sure they would understand. Can it not be postponed at all?
Do not gulp water, your body will reject it. My dr recommended taking a teaspoon of water ever 2 mins, once you feel you can handle this take 2 tsp of water every 4 mins and so on. Soon as you can stomach dyrolite, lucazade, flat coke start drinking these.
My family had it and it only lasted for 24 hours for us. Get well soon x
My Dh and 2 of my DC have had it, one after the other since Christmas day
Just me & DD left, waiting to see if we get it.
I wouldn't visit a family who have have had it in the last few days.
Hanikam - don't go, honestly. Postpone the visit.
To try and avoid passing it on or catching it, wash your hands lots and wash them like you are prepping to do surgery.
For recovering, really mild foods, like a freshly weaned baby. Orange juice is pretty acidic and I wouldn't recommend it or any other juice in the early stages of recovery.
Wokhe up myself with stomach bug this morning, not sure if norovirus as no vomiting but diarrhoea, chills and extreme tiredness. All I can say is thanks to my 10yr old dd who has been looking after me her 6 yr old ds as my dh went away yesterday to see his dm who is ill. plenty of sleep(can't stay awake for m ore 11/2 hours) fluids and hand washing here.
Three out of five of us have had it here.Does that mean DS and I will definitely get it?
Why is norovirus so prevalent these days? What has changed?
It used to be called gastric flu & I remember having a fewChristmas's ruined by it when I was a teenager after germy kids infected us! Wonder if its worse now as we rely on anti bacterial gels & sprays rather than hand washing & bleach for cleaning as we used to.
