Has anyone any good tips that may help when Migraine strikes. Mine often wakes me around 4 am and I have to take the Triptan and/or painkillers just so I am well enough to go to work.
Thank you!

Triptan doesn't work for me but painkillers taken straight away help. I also have something to eat, the sugarier the better and a drink makes a big difference. The best combo I've found is Ribena and a Mars Bar both of which can be kept by the bed (if you get the Ribena in a box) for quick application. I think it's something to do with raising the blood star quickly and putting something into my tummy to help absorption of the pain killers. My doctor doesn't understand why but paracetamol works better for me than ibuprofen.

So sorry you're suffering. It's a real struggle when you suffer with migraines. Hope my little tips help.

Thanks Kat! You're my favourite. Grin

Thank you Homebird8
I will certainly give your remedies a try. It does help to talk to a fellow sufferer, as there are, I'm sorry to say, quite a lot of people who do not appreciate just how bad a Migraine can feel. I used to take Syndol but they have been taken off the market now so I need to look for another alternative. My Doctor did suggest Cola was good for rehydration but sometimes it is difficult to drink this when you feel so bad. Ribena sounds a much better alternative.

Kind regards, Javanna.

Tee2072 - thank you for the link. I notice that quite a few people take Syndol, but I am told these have now been withdrawn...such a shame, they did work some of the time !!

Limited supplies of Syndol are available again, well I bought some in my local (North West) Tesco pharmacy last week. So some limited supplies available, but the pharmacist said they didn't have many.

I find migraleve works for me I take one tablet immediately when headache starts and then there is a yellow one you can take a few hours later if it hasn't fully lifted....

Though hope migraleve isn't only a medication that you can get in NI...

Tee2072 · 24/07/2012 21:00

It isn't Twiggy. My GP gave me something different last time, although I can't remember what it is at the moment, as Migraleve does nothing for me.

I take Propranolol every day now and haven't had a migraine since March, after having them monthly for years.

I heard that feverfew is good but not so good if you are wanting to concieve. A friend of mines mother took it and it worked.

Javanna, I wonder, if they are starting at 4am, whether you may be grinding your teeth when you sleep, as this can be a trigger. When I saw an Osteo re my migraines she pointed out how tense my neck was as a result of clenching overnight and my dentist told me that migraines that came on in the morning could be connected to this. I now sleep with a mouth brace designed specifically to prevent migraines which I feel has reduced frequency of attacks. Here's a link to some info about it www.migraine-dentistry.co.uk/testimonials.html (though I didn't use this place, my own dentist did it.) Unfortunately there seems to be nothing I can do to prevent them around my period though, it's so depressing!!

Meant to say how tense my JAW was, though poss affects neck as well!
