Now i am worried, had transvaginal scan because of pain in my right side and my results have come back that i have a small cyst on the left and they couldn't see the right ( the side i have had the pain on!) because bowel was in the way.
Doctor is sending me for a re scan in 3 months and wants to do the CA 125 blood test.
I am trying to keep calm but my maternal grandmother died of ovarian cancer, although there have been no other cases in the family.

Hello NK.
You know me, I'm a name changer from the tamoxifen thread.
No words of wisdom, just a hand hold and an invitation to join us.
The keeping calm and not getting ahead of yourself is the best you can do for now. Your grandmother's story is not yours, and that one case would not count as a family susceptibility. Take heart. x

If the doc is waiting three months for a rescan then he/she isnt worried.
You however clearly are and three months is a long wait for a worried person imo.
The CA125 whilst sometimes a good indicator is no guarantee of a definitive answer.
I would suggest you have the blood test (they do it for every single ovarian cyst simple or complex so dont read anything into your doc sending you for it) and then go back to see him.
Explain about your maternal grandmother and that that is causing you to be anxious. Also as they only got to see half of you, you would like to be done again now. You dont want to wait 3 months to be rescanned if it all possible. Do you have any other symptoms? You dont say how old you are? Odd bleeding? Periods irregular? Pain after sex or during? Discharge? If any at all tell the doc and push him. Just to get the scan and put your mind at rest.
Did your doc say whether it was a simple or complex cyst?
As for pain and on what side, the pain can be on the side where the cyst isnt iyswim.
I am now on my fourth complex cyst. THey think this is a dermoid like the others but I think the symptoms are different so a bit worried. All my CA125's are fine and always have been.
Try not to worry but sometimes you have to push them!!!

I have no symptoms apart from this twinge like pain that comes and goes but is not the side where the cyst is, infact it is happening alot less often. I am heading for late forties. Doctor did say that it was a small cyst and that they usually offer the blood test if a cyst is seen.
CA125 test can also be elevated too if endometriosis is present.
Is pain cyclical in nature; would also keep a pain and symptom diary in the meantime. There are many types of cysts and some cysts are related to endometriosis. Why did they think the bowel was in the way, have you had any previous abdominal surgery?.
If you are not currently under the care of a gynae you should be as you need further evaluation from such a person.
