dh fancies one for Christmas but they seem to range from £40 upwards. He would like to be able to transfer his vinyl collection onto cd and his ipod, and I guess also be able to play the records themselves at home through our existing amplifier and speakers. Can anyone recommend a particular model please ?

I bought a Lenco turntable last Christmas it was 110 Euro and after a bit of a disappointing first faulty one it works well playing vinyl and connecting to the pc for reformatting for ipod/burning onto cd.
Hope that helps I'm sure they're cheaper this year.

ah didn't see that. Just found a Sony PSLX300USB @ £119 too - is is worth the extra I wonder - or a Numark TT £79

Matt: Thanks for recommending one, I wanted to get one for my husband but didn't have a clue - now ordered the one you said from Maplin.

Excellent Sandy. It's LyraSilvertongue here btw - fellow Twilight fan!

I don't know if you'd be interested - I bought one for DH a couple of years ago but he's never managed to get it to work. I think it probably does work but he's just not very good at practical things!

(I think it's an ION one, or something like that)

Anyway, I was going to take it to the dump - if you're anywhere near me (SW London) you're welcome to have it! I know this might not make a great Christmas present (just in case it doesn't work!) but I have still got the box it came in as well.

Let me know if you're interested!

I think they are a waste of space and money - if you or your partner has basic technical nous and you still have record deck and amp, you can just plug the amp into your computer and record in a programme such as CoolEdit or similar. A lead would be under £10. It's very straightforward.

I don't suppose you'll find this post as interesting as SantaClausImWorthIt's though!

Ooh, Santa, I'm in SW London! Can I buy it? Where are you? I'm in Kingston.

Sydney, my brother does it that way and he says it's a faff.

If LIZS doesn't want it, seeing as it's her thread, you're welcome to have it. I don't want any money for it. I'm in Merton Park, so not too far away.

Ok. <crosses fingers that LIZ doesn't want it> grin

OK Matt - looks like it's yours, as long as you're prepared to come and collect it!

CAT me with your e-mail and I'll let you have my address.

I work from home and am pretty much around for the next few days, although will be going up to Leeds on Wednesday.

Excellent!
I don't have CAT but my email address is elainem1000@blueyonder dot co dot uk
