Can you please tell me if I need this file?

Mittens Around 3-4 MB's each, JPEG. Personal use.
I think I need to sort the external hard drives out and delete them off the c-drive. I just need the confidence to do it. I would be devastated if lost any of them.
Yeah, if only 1GB is free it's impacting on Windows' virtual memory. Check that external hard drive, get another internal drive in your computer, burn files to disc then delete.
95GB of photos is a lot - what are they needed for? What format are they in - JPG, TIF, something else? TIF files could be compressed to use less space. What resolution are they, and can that be reduced? If you're only viewing them on a computer screen, 1MP is more than enough (an 'average' monitor resolution is less than 0.8MP); 4-8MP will is more than enough for printing up to 8x10". Billboards and massive adverts on the sides of buildings have been printed with less than 10MP.
I'm going to go to bed now and hope it sorts itself out!
Oh bollocks, sorry, I forgot I was on this thread and thought I was on a thread with some others I talk to all the time. Sorry.
I had dinner at 8.30.
I called NHS Direct. Lovely people, both of them. But they haven't really helped, they've acertained that I'm not dead and that's about it
Out of hours Dr just rang - she thinks I might have Labyrinthitis.
For the love of christ.
When did you last eat?
You ok?
Or just go to bed and get some sleep?
My neighbour just knocked my door (she could see the sitting room light on and knows I'm a bit of a night owl) and when I got up to answer the door I felt really woozy, I feel as though I've been drinking or taken a sleeping tablet. It's quite a nice feeling, but as I haven't been drinking or taken a sleeping tablet I'm assuming this isn't good...
NHS direct?
Oh and no - no music or videos (well, not commercial ones - some of the 96GB of photos is 'video' from my camera)
Mittens - thank you.
Temp folder is empty.
It's old
(circa 2007) but I don't think it has that much on it, other than photos (95GB), it only has 141GB. C drive has 1GB free. I think there are programmes on there that I don't use, but I have no idea what makes what work so I can't really delete any.
I can open several web pages, but as soon as I do one of the message comes up.
1. Your computer is low on memory. To restore enough memory for programmes to work correctly save your files and then close or restart all open programmes.
... bugger it, I can't get the other one to come up. Typical isn't it!
I have deleted a few things tonight so it's letting me open a few web pages and not activating the message! (only the first one).
Do you have any music or videos/films stored on your computer?
Check your Temp folder; on my Windows 7 PC it's at C:\Users\<my username>\AppData\Local\Temp\ - you should be OK to delete whatever is in there.
1000s of photos - yeah, that could be your trouble. Stick them on the external HDD, burn them to DVD or store them online with Dropbox or something like that.
I'm not convinced that the inability to open more than one web page is linked to your hard drive being full (if it got to that stage I would think that it would struggle to turn on), but it could be impacting on virtual memory, so if deleting some files works, brilliant.
If your computer is that full with files, it probably has years worth of cruft slowing it down.
Downloads folder is empty.
LifeOfPo - I did, but there was a lot of people saying it was OK to get rid of it and a lot of people saying not to get rid of it. I trust me MN Geeks more
TheFallenNinja - thank you
It just came up on the very annoying nortons thing that randomly tells you what's running and said it was using a lot of ....?
My documents doesn't have much in it, except for 1000s of photos which I can't delete. I do have an external hard drive and I think they are on there, but I need to check and then download them to something else as well as they're very important and I'm terrified of losing them
I'll have a look for my download folder ....
It is a modem controller. Least of your problem if your had drive is full.
Check your my documents folder and your download folder. This will be where you can do the most safe deleting.
Try googling it
My hard drive is groaningly full (ie I can only have one web page open and nothing else or I get a warning message!)
I have just got a file notification to say this is running... do you know what it is or if I need it??
McciTrayApp
Thanks
