Cerazette makes me bleed all the time, will the Mirena stop that? Please tell me your experience.

I went on Cerazette in the hope that my periods (painful, heavy, annoying etc.) would stop. Instead I am now bleeding all the time, I have been taking it for nearly 3 months now.

Can't take combination pill for health reasons so can't do back to back packs.

I am booked in for a Mirena coil insertion next week, but not sure if this will make any difference. And as I understand it's a painful procedure I'm not keen to have it if it won't solve my problem!!

Has anybody else changed from Cerazette to the Mirena because they were bleeding on Cerazette and found that the Mirena worked? Please say yes...!

I've never taken cerazette so i don't know about switching from one to the other but i do have a mirena. It really wasn't painful to have it put in, not at all, and i was very nervous and tense because like you i had heard it would be painful. And i haven't had any bleeding since it was put in. It sounds like it's worth a try for you, hope it goes well!

Did they look for a cause for your heavy annoying periods?

INeedtoDrinkLess · 22/04/2013 11:58

Sorry, been AWOL.

Annoying heavy periods never been diagnosed but I used to be able to just about put up with them, but since having DS I can't wear tampons comfortably so am forced down the revolting pantyliner (hate that word) route for 4 days. Consequently I feel my life grinds to a halt, I can't exercise and feel disgusting. Gynaes can't find anything wrong 'down there', I think it's just awkward scarring from a difficult birth - oh how I wish I'd had a c-section...

So I want to stop my periods. Full stop. Hence cerazette, and now maybe mirena.

Do you have any other bleeding issues? Or bruise easily?

Have you tried tranexamic acid or mefanemic acid tablets?

MrsBourneUltimatum · 22/04/2013 21:48

I had a mirena fitted to help with heavy periods. Worked like an absolute dream and had five very happy years on it with light periods once every 2-3 months. And I had it fitted pre any DCs so it was harder to get it in when it was fitted. Not going to lie, it hurt like an absolute bitch, I genuinely had contractions and had to hold the nurses hand Grin but it was just painful going in and that evening- I went to bed with some codeine and a hot water bottle. By the morning that pain was gone and I never looked back.

Still looking for an answer here!

Have been given more cerazette today, Family Planning lady says maybe give it another 3 months (done nearly 3 so far) and see if things settle down. Currently still bleeding on and off on this pill.

Does anybody think I should change to mirena now?

Glad I'm not too late I was on cerazette for the same reasons and after the first 3 months I went back asking to change as I was having the same problems and I was persuaded to give it another 3 months and I'm so glad I did I eventually had no periods on it. I really would give it another few months.

Thank you FFF - that's what I decided to do last night after some deliberation!!
Fingers crossed!

I am having a period every other week with cerazette - it's driving me crazy, I'm giving it up.
