Any advice - I'm totally confused!!!

I'd like a cheap, easy, low maintenance way of composting food. I know I can use the compost bin in the garden, but it's down the other end, and I just wouldn't go to it each day!!! Plus everyone talks abouts rats!

So I'd really like to try another option, and maybe get my little girl involved too.
