I work in admin on a temporary contract. the company I work for have decided to make it permanent so the post has to go to advertising and I have to reapply. This is fine, proceedure, etc.
My line managers have handled telling me this very badly. I asked to meet with them both together to discuss things and they agreed. That meeting was due to take place this afternoon but one decided to go home instead. The other met with me an told me all about how bad SHE feels and how she felt better having talked to me .
I have had no official meeting, was casually told my post was to be advertised, no one has spoken to me about it properly and now one of my managers decided to leave early rather than meet with me. I have been in post for 18 months.
I would take the fact that she feels bad as a good sign. She was obviously embarrassed that the other manager had gone home. The other manager may have had an emergency, I have only had to leave work a couple of times but it does happen.
Whatever you do don't get angry to their faces. It may not have been handled in the way you would have liked but you certainly have a chance of reemployment.
What do you mean by an 'official' meeting? What do you mean 'casually' told?
I'm not sure I understand what is missing from this, other than one of the managers going home, which is slightly rubbish.
You know it needs to be advertised, and are fine with that. No one has attempted to conceal it from you by the sounds of things, or recruit someone else without giving you a chance to apply, or anything like that.
Other than one of the managers going home early (do you know what for, might it have been an actual good reason?) I'm not sure I see why you are so angry tbh.
You knew it was a temporary post. Now you have a chance at permanent - that's GOOD news. I don't think it was very professional of the manager to tell you she felt bad about the situation. What has she got to feel bad about. It's none of your business why the other manager went home. I don't see why you needed two anyway. Just put your energy in to preparing your application for the post. Being angry about this will only be destructive.
cat loads of employers have a strict policy that temp jobs going permanent always have to be advertised, even if it's obvious the incumbent will get the job. It is may be a waste of money and a silly policy, but that is the case for lots of people.
Sounds as though it may well be the case for the OP as well, so no need to assume they don't want her. Unless there's more to it which of course there may be, if she's that angry.
