Fantastic background to the petition here: DO read, whatever your views on Gove and education as it's well-researched, passionate and sensible.

And then sign the petition here if you agree with Debra Kidd.

Only one problem my DDs would get much better IT lessons if the technician was allowed to take them than having a teacher from a different department who nearly knows how to turn the computer on.

Likewise a TA who knows the class may be far better than a supply teacher who instantly puts their foot in it.

Otherwise I agree totally.

Done.

Thank you !

Startail - not sure where your argument fits in? How do you know the IT tech would teach your dcs better? Granted, the supply sounds crap, but just because a person is technically qualified diesnt mean they can teach children & young people.

Let's keep this thread bumped.

Itchy I like the letter - very well reasoned, unhysterical and clear. However, like Start I object to the line about only using qualified teachers. I think there definitely is a case for using "unqualified" teachers, particularly for specialist subjects such as IT, languages, music etc. The private sector have been employing "unqualified" but excellent teachers for years.
