I just heard this on the news. What a shame for the teachers and pupils......

Grim. A friend of a friend has a child in Y6 and of course hardly any of them took any 11+ exams as they thought they were there through to 16 and they got the bombshell a couple of days ago. Shockingly bad management.

How worrying. is it worth calling Kew House school (the new senior Kew Green Prep school) in Kew as they're opening next year (I think) and might be looking to fill places.....also St James boys and girls always worth a call. Good luck to your friend and the other families there.

There were rumours at the start of this academic year that it was on its way out -- IIRC a lot of parents with children due to start in Reception pulled them out and sent them elsewhere at short notice because they were worried. But then there was the counter "Putney Park's always on the verge of going under, but they always manage to sort it out in the end" school of thought. It's particularly tough timing, though -- a few months ago the girls in Y2/Y3/Y6 at least would have been able to go into 7+/8+/11+ entry for other schools but those will all have filled their places by now, I'd imagine.

The website hasn't been updated for years.

I feel for the children, their parents and the staff. I took my child out of reception last year because the school appeared to have deep problems. Wishing all those there the best of luck in finding alternative schools.

What a disaster for the girls in year 10 who will find it virtually impossible to find another school doing the same boards for their GCSEs. What on earth are they going to do? Does anyone remember what happened when St David's closed?

Surbiton High took a lot of the St Davids girls, I think they offered to take any that couldn't make alternative arrangements, at least those embarked on exam courses. I'm not sure if there was a church connection though?

I dismissed Putney Park 15 years ago because the numbers didn't seem sustainable.

I believe year 1 may be rescued by prospect house (fab school). They may open another reception class for them.

What a nightmare for all concerned. I wish the best to all the children and young people there, particularly those coming up to exams- how horrid to have to go through that.

How has this happened and why did the school roll drop so much? I thought most schools (including Indys) in this part of London were over subscribed.

My DD's school closed a few years back & it was hard for everyone, but the school merged (was swallowed up) by a neighbouring school which actually was the best thing to happen.

I feel for the pupils & families concerned, but other schools will ensure pupils are looked after, particularly those in exam years. DD had friends who left their old school left for alternative schools & I've not heard any negative feedback!

My daughter is starting at Wandsworth Prep in Sept and I know that as a new school they are expanding year groups and have both the space and resources to grow. Perhaps those from Putney Park who have been left devastated by this closure news should take a take a look. The website is as lovely as the school

Do you mean the Miss Mostyn who was married to Boris Johnson, and who recently married a 23 year old ? Or the Horse?

The horse has a fantastic pedigree it should be said.

I feel sorry for the existing school children, I wish them and their parents luck in finding new schools.
I guess PPS closure was inevitable with so many parents pulling their children out all the time and with the pending opening of the new school in Putney common in a few years time it would have happened then.
I am unsure which schools will have the capacity to take the extra pupils on. I noticed Prospect House being mentioned above, but their new building doesn't appear to be ready yet. Wandsworth Council really needs to step in here to find a temporary solution. I had written to them a few months back to push to open another school in Putney with the large volume of new builds taking place there, let's hope they do otherwise there will be a major shortage of school places in the area.
