OK, DH 40th birthday end of this year and haven't really got a clue what to do. I want to WOW him and make it really really memorable.

I've thought along the lines of it might be a weekend away (if so where best and only one night, due to babysitter and not too long a distance from North West) or a mix of night out with friends and later with a weekend away, football etc...

I really want it to be about him and if that means a mainly "manly" day/weekend (rather than a spa? smile ) then thats ok, but need to some input please.

Given the choice, how would you like to spend your special birthday

End of this year is a while away yet - so take the pressure off yourself.

Really depends on what you think gets him going. If he's angling for time away, then maybe get him some tickets to an event.

Saw your post on Twickenham. Yes it's rugby. England play there. It's an amazing day out (although I'm not particularly objective about this!). Autumn Internationals are on at Twickenham late Nov/early Dec.

On the other hand, maybe he just wants to spend some time with you. Again, what's he always angling for?

Got my 40th next year. I just want a big party with as many people as possible.

Good luck smile

Hotel
Hot air ballooning by day
Nice lunch

Theatre/concert/comedy club/jazz club by night
Late night restaurant

Maybe a little evening buffet at home with family, friends, music, drink, games, sparklers and fireworks. Maybe a evening BBQ with lanterns in the garden?

Not too sure what he wants givemesomespace that is the problem... i think he would like a big party like you, but i just don't understand why...he has lots of friends that live up and down the bredth of the country and when i said near the end of the year, i mean near christmas. Don't think too many people will just show up and pay out for hotels etc that close to xmas.

He doesn't have a lot of close male friends, very few infact, just a lot of friends who he enjoys their company when he see's them but doesn't paticulally go out of his way to see. - so maybe it's me but i don't want to spend a load of money on a big doo for them (is that mean?)

justcallmefish I was thinking maybe a gathering of family at the house for the evening. Maybe a comedy club get together with friends. Then a weekend to whisk him away, just the two of us to somewhere fancy to eat (maybe heston bluemantales (sp?) restaurant kind of thing?!?!?!

OR....

just forget about the whole meeting up with friends n family (let him sort if that's what he want's) but take him to where ever his football team will be playing that weekend, watch the match, have a few drinks, go for something to eat/curry and end up where-ever (bit like a stag doo?)

I'm thinking about it now, just incase i have to order tickets, book reservations etc.....

Sorry for being so long winded smile

Football clubs usually have packages you can buy as a gift.

So, maybe a tour of the stadium with a player, then go the restaurant on site, watch the match in a box with complimentary drinks etc.

Might be worth a look

Cheers Fish, i will though i can think of better things to do than sit in the cold and grumble cheer on the team lol

The football idea sounds okay but if you're not really into it then it might actually make the experience less enjoyable for him - he might be worrying about you. His mood may also be affected by the team's success.

A gig seems like a safer option. Something like the Stone Roses or some band he really likes but hasn't seen for ages. Build a weekend around it - hotel, dinner and saucy knickers :p

personally I would be happy to be naked, tied to a post and shagged senseless. You're welcome. x

I'd take him to a strip club then take him to a hotel and..etc smile Or, if you're more adventurous, hire a prostitute.

I can guarantee it will make it memorable ;)

Ps. I'm not a man, and I'm half serious smile
