Another year, another 6 Nations. So roll up ladies and gents - tell us about your team and your hopes and fears for the next few weeks.

I'm counting down the days. We should on for a good one!

Looks a lot closer this year, should be a great tournament!

GiveMeSomeSpace · 29/01/2013 22:42

It's all up in the air - that's for sure. Lots of change in all the teams.

England coming off a new year with a new team. Scotland in the same position England were a year ago. I, for one, want to see a good contest on Saturday.

As an Englishman living in the Highlands with a Scots wife and two scots born boys - it is always an interesting Calcutta cup.
A admit I just like a good game (or three) of rugby over 6 nations weekends. I also get loads of ironing done whilst watching (my trade off for spending hours in front of iPlayer!!)
I like watching the Irish and Welsh play - always support the Italians and Scots against anyone - except of course against England - who just make me nervous.
(In any sport of course - anyone against the Aussies.....;-)

Watching it up there sounds like fun Mikey.

I think there are enough new boys and changes in the England team for this to be very unpredictable. Will be interesting to see how Marler does against the Scottish beefcakes. If he struggles in the set piece, I think it could really unsettle in the English in the wider game.

I have still got the Guardian Sport section from the day last yr of the All Blacks game that headlines "Is this the Greatest All Blacks team ever".

I think that one was answered by England.......was great to watch!

GiveMeSomeSpace · 31/01/2013 07:23

I'll have to dig out a copy of that article and get it framed. I went to the game with my brother - at best was hoping for a respectable performance and nothing too embarrasing. I'm not sure I fully appreciated the whole thing because it felt like I was in a dream. Absolutely marvellous!

I don't know much about the quality of reporting in other supports, but I must say the rugby press is pitiful. Sometimes I go to a game and wonder if the reporters have been watching the same game, so bad is the analyisis. I don't know about you, but I do enjoy buying the papers the day before/day of the game and comparing the tripe with post match reports by the same journos on the following day - Really shows just how little what they know they're talking about.

Anyone watching?

I think Wales will lose by a point.

GiveMeSomeSpace · 02/02/2013 17:33

To be fair Wales came back well, but too little too late....

Impressed by Scotland I must say. This last 10 mins could be interesting.

And England won, so very happy.

Ireland away next week will be tough.

GiveMeSomeSpace · 02/02/2013 17:51

Happy with that result for England. Very impresed with Farrell. Lots of errors on both side but a great game to watch. Also impressed with a lot of Scotland's play.

I must say I'm starting to get a bit excited about the youth and depth in the England squad.

Nice to have the first game wrapped up. Roll on Sunday 10th and Ireland!

An interesting Calcutta Cup in our house - married to a Scotsman and our dd is 6mo so the first time she had to choose sides! Obviously, she chose the right one...

GiveMeSomeSpace · 02/02/2013 17:53

Agreed Daddelion - Dublin will be a hard game. Ireland are looking very strong.

Glad to hear it gwennie

Wales were awful first half and good second half.
Ireland the opposite.

I thought England were good, Scotland were better than last time.

France to win tomorrow.

mikey9 · 03/02/2013 10:12

Great start to the 6 nations. That Ireland Wales game was the pick of the matches yesterday - some amazing Irish defence and (from an English perspective) some encouraging frailties on both sides.

If France are challenged by the Italians today then we should have a great 6 nations with no dominant team.

Certainly, given the usual Scottish inability to capitalise on mistakes - England weren't that dominant really. Some encouraging performances from the young entrants into the England squad - and Owen Farrel is becoming a real Wilkinson like Metronome - hope he can tackle as well as Wilko did too.

GiveMeSomeSpace · 03/02/2013 16:54

Have you ever seen anything like that!! Italians truly fantastic - unbelievable stuff.

Game on 2013 6 Nations!!

OP posts:
gwenniebee · 03/02/2013 17:04

How exciting. Think dd may have decided she is Italian, though, as she was much more involved in today's match than yesterday's.

mikey9 · 03/02/2013 22:47

Ahhhh - just caught up on iPlayer - and finished the ironing! Italy great (for them) - France (very Poor - however who is betting they will be back next week with a huge performance?)

Scotland Italy next weekend - previously would have been the Wooden Spoon contect but this year - who knows?

After 2012 being a great sporting Year (Wiggo and Sky in the Tour de France, and the Olympics in general) there was always the fear that this year could be a let down - but the 6 nations really looks like it will kick the year off nicely.

shonun · 05/02/2013 23:14

dont remember 3 exciting games of freeflowing rugby in the 5/6 nations... sometimes stodgfy, always passionate. i would have said it was the lions effect, but italy were quick out of the blocks and creative in attack... hope it continues.
was great to see twelvetrees do so well on debut, hope he lines up with a fit manu against ireland, and we do something about brown and goode who underperformed... then i would have hope of a win... at the moment i am 60-40 on ireland winning a close game.

GiveMeSomeSpace · 06/02/2013 09:18

I think Ireland and England are fairly equally matched although Goode and Brown will need to tighten up on defence otherwise we are stuffed. Also slightly worried that Marler is going to struggle a bit.

On a plus side, I think that Launchbury and Parling, plus the depth of our bench may well be the difference. If our biggest dilemma is which one of Twelvetrees, Manu and Barritt to keep on the bench, things really can't be that bad. (Should be Barritt IMO)

I think both teams know that it will be about hitting the game at full pace from the whistle and keeping up pressure for the full 80 mins. I also think both teams are capable of that, so by all accounts, we are on for a belter!

Injury worries for us ahead of the showdown with England. With little Keith and D'arce with late fitness tests then we may have to reshuffle with McFadden and Bod in the centres - thats not a bad shout though - even better for me would be BOD 12 and Cave 13 - thats provincial bias though Wink

The doomsday scenario for me is D'arce is crocked, Earls is selected at 13 with BOD 12 and Manu will have his hat trick in the first half.....

God how we will miss POC and Fez.... Sad

Daddelion · 07/02/2013 15:01

The big difference is Bod. He's a legend and a talisman.

England will need to stop him to win the game.
