... except for that little bit immediately under their lower lip?
Is it a style thing? Or do they avoid that area because of getting nicked by the shaver?
I'd like to know so I can stop myself from getting all weirded out every time I see a bloke with a little tuft.

Ooh great question. When i see this on a man it really irritates me. It is so contrived. As is the thin line of hair some men like to sport around the jawline, its so odd and looks ridiculous!

You really don't know why men keep that little bit of hair? Seriously?
Do you have an explanation, StanHouseMuir, or are you being patronising?
Or maybe you don't want to talk about it because you feel embarrassed.

Well, Stanhouse, I know why they keep it there - it's to immediately identify the wearer as a complete and utter twat.
It's a Soul Patch
They think it says "I'm a deeply hip blues meister"
Really it says "I'm a deeply tragic blues loser"
DP is under strict orders to shave his. Friends of mine aren't so firm with their oh's

It's a gay thing, like hanging a hanky out of your back pocket.

yes, it's pretty good. Left pocket - you like to 'give', right pocket - you like to 'receive'. Apparently. Or possibly the other way round?

It's a style thing.
Why do some women remove all the hair off their fanjo except for a strip down the middle?

I'm colourblind so I can see I'll have to be careful with my handkerchiefs (and in fact make sure there is never anything hanging out of my pocket). Also, the two lads in the photo on Wikipedia can't have a very satisfying relationship if both of them want to be on the bottom.
I never realised a "soul patch" implied you were gay, though I did think it meant you were a prat. Then again, I've had a goatee for years (it's now largely white) and the main reason I have it these days is that I've had it for years.
