No, cos I couldn't get tickets - grrr!

no, me neither - to add insult to injury I was staying near stratford for the first two weeks and went every day for returned tickets, but nothing doing. When I spent one whole day there shopping (which I recommend, btw), none of the shop assistants was even aware he was coming!

I was invited to go and see it by a friend who gets preferential tickets. And I had to turn her down. TWICE. sad

She is going to see it about 3 times, I think envy.

Tickets for London go on sale I think 12th Sep, so there is hope yet. grin

I went - and it was fab. I bought tickets a year ago, and it was well worth the wait! The entire cast was fantastic - not just David T and Patrick Stewart. Gertrude was superb.

I was there last week. Gertrude, I've always had trouble with her, but she made far more sense to me this time than she ever has. And Oliver Ford Davies, gotta love him.

DP was a bit meh about going. He bought the tickets for me for Christmas, he won't usually watch a drama or read fiction, but he was slightly tearful and said it was too good. (Obviously I slapped him round the head and told him to get a grip, but you see his point.)

FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!

DT looked exhausted at the end, could hardly even smile. 4 hours of acting and he seemed to spend a good chunk running too.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Hobnobfanatic on Wed 27-Aug-08 20:00:47
Yes, it was a very physical performance, wasn't it?
But he seemed delighted by the applause at the end - genuinely delighted and almost surprised. I did expect knickers to be thrown at him at one stage - there were a lot of swooning ladies and adolescents in the audience!

Ohhh, I am SOOOO jealous. Hamlet is my favourite tragedy, and I am so depserate to get tickets for london - I see they are already on Ebay
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Hobnobfanatic on Thu 28-Aug-08 21:07:37
I was tempted to ebay them - £600 a pair for some Saturdays! But I'm glad I held on to them; the night will stay with me forever. Swoon.

I'm sure they'd have to have told you in advance of buying the tickets if the advertised actor won't be in it. That said, I saw a stand-in when Daniel Day Lewis stepped out of Hamlet, years back. The understudy was Jeremy Northam - and he was absolutely brilliant!

We overheard one of th efemale actresses in the pub afterwards comparing the stage door to a Rollingstones concert!

I'm going on Thursday with DH - got a short break through RSC. Not my cup of tea (got tickets for DH's birthday) but I am interested to see what he is like.....

I went early on - 29th July and loved it. DT was good but as other posters have said the rest of the cast were fantastic too. I laughed so much at Oliver Ford Davies!
annaje (and everyone else still to go) - hope you enjoy. Let us know what you think!

Will report back and let you know how it went - we could only get the matinee performance. Personally I am looking forward to a night away from the kids in a moderately posh hotel.......

Read hilarious story about how DT and Pat St have vetoe dsigning any Dr Who/Star Trek stuff at the door. No Tardis or Trekkie suit, Hamlet programme only lol
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By MuchLessTiredNow on Tue 02-Sep-08 21:29:06

Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Clary on Tue 02-Sep-08 21:49:28
Excellent dilemma for Patrick! Does DH really own that book?

'Fraid so!

He also has a Klingon dictionary.

And he writes Captain Scarlet fanfic.

He is a true dyed-in-the-wool geek

Ah well Rustybear, at least he's too busy being a trekkie to be hooked on the footie wink

I saw it! We went for our wedding anniversary a couple of weeks ago. Booked about a year ago, and timed it really well, as I'm now 7 months pregnant with our first baby so theatre trips are going to be off the menu soon!

He was very yummy, though very very skinny. We went to the stage door afterwards but didn't manage to get autographs - he came out and signed for a bit, then went back inside. No one else came out and a bit later a security guy came and told everyone that all the actors had left now. Walking back we got passed by Patrick Stewart in his jag

ladies

I went to see it yesterday. DT was brill (and more handsome in the flesh - great smile). I was pleasantly surprised by it - as I had mentioned previously on this thread, shakespeare is not my thing - but I really enjoyed it and it was surprisingly funny! Patrick Stewart was very good but you could tell everyone was there to see DT. Anyone still going to see it - enjoy!!!

I got hold of return tickets for Love's Labour's Lost from the RSC website this afternoon. You have to be a member to book online but it is very possible to get tickets if you keep trying. I'm still after a Hamlet ticket too, I want to see it again as it was so unbelievably brilliant.

Got Love's Labour's Lost out of the library yesterday to read in advance of visit, so as to understand what he's on about - like I'll care grin
