Single Mum. 2 primary school children. Anyone in same situation and how much is your grocery bill?

I'm trying to budget & it seems like I spend a crazy amount on food...

Well it depends very much on what you like to eat and where you like to shop, but if it helps, I used to spend about 120 per forthnight in Tesco, then I started shopping at Asda and it went down to 80-90ish, in Aldi probaby about 60 but then the savings are mostly based in not finding expensive brands and a much limited variety of products.

I spend way over £350 a month on food (single and 3dcs) but am really trying to get this down - I have stopped packed lunches which is making a difference and am now looking at meal planning and am using up what I have in the cupboards (which could feed a small army)

I will watch this thread with interest...

sorry meant to say I have stopped school dinners (was over £6 a day) and replaced them with packed lunches. Asda is much cheaper than Sainsburys imo

Meal planning really helps. But also be pragmatic - if there is a cut of meat on offer, slightly modify your plan.
Also eat less meat and bulk up on beans and pulses.

Not a single parent but I saw the thread title and as I posted the other day, we have DH and I and two toddlers and my weekly spend is usually £35-£38 per week. Just simple meals, nothing fancy, but all cooked from scratch, no expensive ready meals. That includes packed lunches 3 days a week.
