Well, what would you like to write? A novel? Poetry? What age group and what genre? The best thing you can do is think about this, then jump in. Think of a basic plot and extend it from there.

Best of luck smile

Thanks for advice smile

To be honest I have mo idea!
I just have this need to delve into the darkest parts of my brain and extract my imagination and write it all in a beautiful creative way

Does that make sense?

Yup, perfect sense. It really helps if you have a rough idea of who you're writing for though. Children's books, for example, have to be written in a very specific way which takes into account the different literacy and attention levels for the age groups.

I was a journalist for years but career changed. I miss writing so much sad

I have characters and a rough idea of plot for a novel. 2012 is going to be the year I write it. Join me!

The best advice I came across was to 'write what you know about'. Later, 'write what inspires you and what you are prepared to research to death!'.

and of course read stuff. Esp. the stuff that doesn't come easily. But in any case, put words down and show it to others. I have about 4 thick files full of ideas and potential. Only 1/10 has seen the eyes of others!
