So - we're being told to cut out fags and booze when ttc because it apparently seriously affects our chances of conceiving. So why is it, then, that the Baby Boom years (1945 - 1960) happily coincided with a society that cheerfully smoked before, after and during pregnancy and, certainly in some echelons of society which favoured the martini lunch, merrily embraced over-consumption of alcohol.

Can anyone shed any light?

I reckon early marriage, no careers for women and unreliable contraception may have had a counter-balancing effect!
