I am a namechanger as am completely barking mad for even considering having 4 children - have three boys - would like a girl (but happy either way tbh) - any tried and tested tips for conceiving a girl?
have a look on the BFP in October thread a few women on there are ttc a girl
Have namechanged as my sister is a lurker!
Thanks
Will come out of closet at a later date!
Have been looking at a few sites that will give you all the tips, google "chose the sex of your baby" and theres loads on there, don't bother with any that you have to pay money to for loads of "supplements"
Ok, I can't believe I am about to post this but you've asked!
A friend of mine was in a similar boat - had 2 DS and wanted a DD. She read and read and googled and googled and here is her theory:
There are days in a month that will result in either a boy or a girl. To strengthen that... well when you're TTC... I mean IN THE PROCESS... you can't "enjoy" it if you know what I mean
. You DH/ DP must, of course, to complete the process but you cannot.
I know is sounds CRAZY and I actually don't believe it but she swears by it and now has a little DD. She tells everyone how she actually was flipping through magazines, trying to distract herself while you know... I feel bad for her poor DH LOL but hey, that's dedication to the idea, I guess!
Good luck ~ sending you lots of pink baby pixy dust ~
Shettles theory
boy-producing sperm swim faster but dont live as long, whereas girl-producing sperm swim slower but live longer. Because of this, he says that if you want a girl, its better to have sex two to four days before ovulation then stop, as the girl-producing sperm are more likely to still be present when you ovulate.
I read this somewhere and then tried it! I tried for a boy so was waiting till after I ovulated. I'm sure its just luck but it seemed to work!
i have also heard that the man should have a wank first and then have sex.
apparently there is a whole book dedicated to this, i know a woman who used it and had a girl.
I was after (and got) a girl, which coincided with trying the pre-ovulation-sex-only method described by ecmo. in fact she was conceived on day 8 of my cycle or something ridiculously early like that. and i felt totally sick from about day 26. very very clear girl signal, apparently. good luck!
I have no idea if this is true, but Jamie Oliver was saying on the radio a couple of days ago that it is all to do with temperature. He wants a boy after 2 girls. This relates to the male sperm swimming faster than female, so DH/DP would somehow need to cool his bits down for a boy to help them swim, and visa versa for a girl!
Anyway, not sure that Jamie Oliver is the world's expert on conception, but there you go!
Hello
I'm trying to do this 2! Ok there is a fantastic book which is v v easy to read, when my DH's mate leaves aftre watching rugby I will post details (don't want him seeing book!
I have 2 DS's and they are wonderful but would be nice to have a pink one 2! here is what I am doing : _
- Lots and lots of sex before OV to get sperm count down
-hubby to keep his bits very warm (they suggest hot baths before the deed but not done that yet
so tight pants!!
- build up each month getting closer to ov each month, suggests u stop cd7 first month and the cd8 then cd9 following months.
-no sex near ov (need to chart or sticks)
-no orgasims for women!
-there are diets but not sure how effective they are............someone is posting who is doing this.
I am well happy that people have put some sucess stories on here, I am keen but I have limited patience so these messages will keep me strong.
I heard Jamie Oliver to and was nodding on head to him! he obviouslu doing his research
HTH
What ecmo said.
If and I am only saying if (so please dont shoot me down in flames!!!) I have 3 DDs, and I eat a lot of fruit and yoghurts. A friend of mine who has 3 DSs doesnt, she tended to go for more of the starchy kind of food.
I have to be honest, I didnt eat these foods inparticular, they are my norm.(But I have to say I am very pleased in having 3DDs, also my friend didnt make herself eat anything different either.)
So, honestly dont know if this helps or not!
I definately agree with Ecmo - I'm quite sure we conceived ours this way. We weren't trying to, it just happened that way.
BTW I've just had number 4 - its lovely!
Are you really Victoria Beckham, mad44? It's just that I read David was wearing baggy pants and having a special diet in OK today as they want a girl.
lol, I must have a miracle DD then, as our DD was concieved on day 18, with no warming of DH's bits, no special diet ... and lots of fun for both of us!

Shettles method and Hazel Chesterman Philips did not work for me. And I was very scientific about it.
I have a DD conceived on CD11 and one conceived on CD18 so the first one could ring true but not the second one, I have a 28 day cycle and know I ov around CD14.
I also read that the BMJ did a study on timing of sex for a certain gender and it concluded that it makes no difference. I also believe that some men don't have a 50:50 mix of girl:boy sperm that some may be more like 75:25 in favour of one and that it is genetic i.e. would explain families of girls and boys.
DP and I have had the discussion and we both agreed we wouldn't try and tip the balance towards a boy, don't want to miss the opportunity of getting pregnant just because we are trying to time it and if you did all the timings and still got the "wrong" sex how disappointed would you be?
I always thought I would, and wanted to have 3 girls, so was (a little) disappointed to have 2 boys. obviously they are gorgeous and i love them to bits, but my DH doesn't want more than 1 more child, and i am getting more and more desperate for a DD!!!
the theory of no sex nearer than 3 days before ovulation seems to make sense, but any other tips which are not too complicated and scientific would be much appreciated!!
i had a girl first followed by 3 boys, i only planned the first but only had sex the once unprotected the day after i finished my period (28 day cycle) which was day 6 from the start of my period. although i used to drink alot of pure orange and had vinegar on most foods. i think its the acidity of the womans body that helps as male sperm cant survive in acid! it worked for me xxx
hello!
are any of you ladies who were posting in 07 and 08 about conceiving a particular sex still around?
Did it work?
I'm so interested!! Would really love a girl after my gorgeous boy but all the tips to get a girl seem to make getting pregnant at all difficult and i don't want to miss out on conceiving completely
Thanks for sharing all of your tips - I too would love to have a little girl (although I would be grateful for a healthy child of either sex). I have been reading up on the internet and have managed to talk my DH into trying specifically for DD (although he doesn't believe in any of it!). Crossing my fingers!!
alexeliza - interested to hear from you!
we are doing the same. kind of.....
i really just want a healthy baby of either sex (much like you) but would love a daughter...
have you managed to pinpoint ov? How far in advance will you stop? Is it ok to ask such personal questions?! sorry if not!
Do you already have kids?
Nice to find someone with the same feelings
Hi HappyFTMP!
We are due to start ttc very soon, but I've reading and researching everything I can beforehand. From what I've gathered there are three things you can focus on - diet, ovulation and position.
Diet is the one thing I've really tried to change, increasing my levels of calcium and magnesium (supposedly that creates a better environment for making DD). I've also being taking vitamin supplements as well.
I have bought a saliva magnifier (I'm not sure if that's what it's actually called) which is aparently better for trying for a DD - you can supposedly detect the changes in saliva 4-5 days before ov so you know to have sex and then hold off and cross fingers!
Apparently the ov sticks are better for ttc a DS as they indicate 1-2 days before ov, better suited for Y sperm as they are supposed to be quick but not last as long.
Then position is supposed to be shallow for DD (missionary, spoons) and as the others have said above, no enjoyment (but I think it's worth it if I manage to succeed in conceiving a DD!!)
DH is happy to try - if we succeed in having DD he'll get such huge brownie points with his mother!! But that said, either is fine, just hope they're healthy and grow up happy. It will just be fun to try and see if it works.
Good luck with everything and I hope to hear how you get on (and whether it all does really work)!!
Sorry HappyFTMP - you asked if I had kids yet as well.... you might have already picked it up from the post above, but this will be our first. We're hoping for two, so I'm figuring I'll have two attempts!
