Prenacare causing irregular cycles

Hello

I've been taking prenacare before conception, usually my cycles have been 28 days but that was when I was on the pill (came off the pill at the end of May).

Since taking these vitamins my cycles have gotten longer and longer, currently it's been 33 days since my last AF started.

Has anyone else experienced this taking them? Should I stop taking them and stick to just folic acid?

Many thanks :)

When I started taking vitamins it made my cycles longer (33 days) like yours. I’m not sure if it was the vitamins tbh but I ended up pregnant the second cycle that was ‘longer’.

If your cycles are changing as a result of pregnacare it probably means you weren’t ovulating before (or not ovulating regularly). Keep taking it. It has inositol in it which means if you have undiagnosed pcos it can really help!

sar1988 · 05/08/2019 20:54

@Marshmallow1992 it says it on the packet that it can disrupt cycles which doesn't make any sense to me with it being a conception vitamin. X

@Teddybear45 I definitely have ovulated on both cycles since stopping the pill it's just been this cycle that has been disrupted.
Been having pains but no AF.
Think I'll stop taking them for a while and see what happens.

Thanks for help ladies xx

Do they really - it’s just vitamins isn’t it? What else is in there to make that happen? (I didn’t take any, but that would put me off.)

@sar1988 I had this exact issue last cycle, which was my first time taking them. I had a 58 day cycle, whereas normally I'm between 31-34 days. I stopped taking it whilst away on holiday and ovulated as soon as I got back (on CD45!).
I know I was definitely ovulating before these tablets as I had a BFP back in March, so it must have been Pregnacare which was delaying it. I did some googling and it seems the Vit B complex could be the reason. Also the Amazon reviews for Pregnacare are full of stories like this.
So this month I've only taken the folic acid + Vit D tablets from Superdrugs.

If you think it's causing issues, then definitely stop taking it. I hope your cycles go back to normal!

@PixieLumos yeah I know it's weird, I've attached the label for you. X

@LokiCat oh thank god, I was really starting to worry. I've come off them now and just taking folic acid and see what happens, I go on holiday on Friday so no doubt it will arrive then. Thank you so much I'll go check out the reviews. X

I've been following this thread as I've started taking these. Have only taken about 8 so far, but have been having mild period pains for a few days despite not being due for another week. Also tried tracking ovulation this month and haven't managed to get a single positive test despite testing from day 9 through to day 16. It seems a bit too soon for it to have affected ovulation but it's my first month ever using the test strips and I don't really know what to expect.

Anyway, sorry to derail OP. I hope your cycle sorts itself got soon, will let you know if it has the same effect on me.

Slightly tmi, but have they turned anyone else's wee luminous yellow or is it just me? Blush

sar1988 · 06/08/2019 12:20

@andantecantabile please don't apologise :)

Yes it turned my pee bright yellow too
I didn't notice any difference untill I was on my second packet and my period was due.

I've read online that it's only meant for before you start trying to conceive not while your trying but doesn't make that obvious on the packet, there is no information in the leaflet either about these side effects just says go see your GP.

Xx

@sar1988 I have had similar problems with these. I used to get really strong ovulation symptoms to the point that I knew before even taking a test that it would come up positive (I've been tracking for months before TTC). Since I've been taking these all my symptoms have disappeared and I now struggle to get any positive result (typically just as I start TTC!). Plus I had a really short cycle last month which I have never experienced before. I had no idea what caused it until I saw another post. I decided to stop taking them this weekend and will just take a simple folic acid supplement instead and see if it it goes back to normal.

andantecantabile · 06/08/2019 20:35

@sar1988 thank you for the advice, I didn't know it wasn't meant to be taken when TTC either! We've just made the decision to stop taking it and switch to folic acid only for now. Good luck with your TTC!

sar1988 · 07/08/2019 10:05

@Doll34- yeah me too, I'm getting symptoms of leading upto ovulation at the moment which I was due to next week so fingers crossed.

@andantecantabile
It was just something I read online so I could be wrong but I'm just sticking with folic acid.
Thanks you too, we are starting from next month so hopefully my cycle will go back to normal by then xx
